Molly Ivins: Lethally Stupid Liberalism Personified
A rant by liberal columnist Molly Ivins, published just a week after a Muslim plot was foiled that could have killed thousands aboard transatlantic flights, gives an idea of the kind of trouble we will be in if liberals take control of the government with the country under terrorist threat.
According to Ivins, who presumably is paid good money to share her Democratic wisdom, terrorism is not a threat at all, but rather a joke. The "Karl Rove tactic" of asking people to take terrorism seriously is "close to comedy." Here's how she dismisses a large terror cell that was broken up in Canada:
Seventeen people were arrested in Canada for intending to behead the prime minister. Has anyone in all of history ever cared that much about a Canadian prime minister?
Applying this same razor wit to attempts to incarcerate terrorists, Ivins smirks,
Of the hundreds of prisoners, alleged terrorists all, who have been held at Guantanamo on the grounds that they were the worst of the worst, only about 10 have ever been charged with anything.
The rest, presumably, are innocent as babes. Maybe Ivins would like to invite them over for tea.
As for the recently foiled transatlantic terror plot:
In the latest episode, shortly after the announcement of a British-based plot to blow up American airliners, the United Kingdom and the United States were already airing their differences over when the perpetrators should have been arrested.
The Bush administration has put itself in the position of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. If, God forbid, a serious terrorist conspiracy is uncovered, there will be a tendency to dismiss it as a backlash to these overhyped "plots."
A plan to murder thousands of people does not constitute a "a serious terrorist conspiracy" to an elite opinion-maker like Ivins. Trying to pass it off as some kind of big deal makes Bush the boy who cried wolf. As for September 11, Ivins has forgotten all about it, and expects the rest of us to do the same.
If you value your life and the life of your family, do whatever you can to prevent the sort of people idiots like Molly Ivins would have you vote for from taking control of the government.
