One Small Step Toward the Tower of Babel

Moonbats' struggle to impose a balkanized Tower of Babel in place of the American melting pot reached a new extreme of absurdity over the weekend as out-of-town activists descended on Geno's Steaks to force a conflict by ordering in Spanish.

Geno's, a classic South Philly cheesesteak joint, has been in the news ever since the press discovered that owner Joey Vento put a small sign in his window reading, "This is America. When ordering speak English." Philadelphia's Human Relations Commission filed a complaint over the sign, and was backed by the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission.

Yelped North Jersey lawyer Gilberto Garcia, who organized the stunt:

What we seek is to be served when we order in Spanish.

In an apparent attempt to grind it into the gringos' faces that they can invade our country and then demand we speak their language, Garcia timed his antic for the Fourth of July weekend. He brought along a troupe of 30 immigrants in t-shirts printed with "Pan, Bisteck y Queso, Por Favor" (Spanish for "Bread, Steak and Cheese, Please").

One Mexican native came to the counter and instead of making any attempt to be understood, just kept bleating, "Pan, pan" — Spanish for bread. He was given a cheesesteak, as were all the rest of them.

In the past, Geno's employees have good-naturedly helped non–English-speaking customers to order. If the goal was to prove that they don't even have to try to speak English, Garcia has won a victory in the righteous struggle to replace America with some wretched polyglot third-world hellhole. But it's a small victory, as Vento never intended to turn any customers away — and as of yet, his employees aren't forced to speak Spanish back.

If you don't understand someone, how can you possiblly serve them.

"I'm sorry, I don't understand you. Next, please."

30 immigrants eh? That's practically free advertising! What a great precedent for shop-owners in America - if you want to increase your revenue from the hispanic market, just insist that your customers speak English, and the moonbats will do the marketing!

No shirts

No shoes

No English

No Service?

For most business men it is the color of money that matters. There is no law to feign incomprehension if one does not understand a foreign language. English should be established as the national language of America.

Note to Liberal Intellectual Radical Progressives:

When my Grandfather graduated from (public) high-school he had had to pass courses in Latin and one other language besides English (the commonest choice was French). In effect he entered College already speaking three languages. That was before Liberals took over the Public Education system completely (my Grandfather was born in the 19th century, just to make the timing plainer), and eviscerated it. If you had left well enough alone, we would have a much more 'multicultural' populace. Of course we would also have a populace far more likely to be able to detect that you are full of dung.

What's ironic is that by helping the Spanish-speakers learn how to order in English, Gino's was helping immigrants understand society's dominant language and so allow them to better function in said society. The so-called advocates, however, are enabling and forcing the immigrants to remain ghettoized in an isolated sub-culture in which they are prey for the unscrupolous and at the mercy of those advocates to speak on their behalf. So, tell me again... who's helping the immigrants and who's doing them a disservice? Those who help them learn or those who ensure their ignorance?

Man wanted a pan?

I'd smack him in the head with an iron frying pan.

Sorry to be a pedant.

TNS,

Thanks. Now corrected.

So, why are you upset when French refuse to speak to you in English in Paris? Should they hang up we-only -serve-french-speakers signs?

Would Don Vento be happy if someone ordered in Italian?

Would Don Vento be happy if someone ordered in Italian?

It's his business, so he can demand that his customers speak Pig Latin if he freakin' wants to.
