Moonbats' Jewish Infallibility Tactic

The "liberal infallibility" tactic that Ann Coulter courageously addressed in Godless has reared its head in another form: Jewish infallibility. As Ben Shapiro observes, self-hating Jewish moonbats have been using it lately to attack Israel in its hour of need.

As readers might recall, Coulter caused an uproar when she pointed out that the insidious Jersey Girls, a bevy of 9/11 widows who happen to be moonbats, have used their victim status as a shield from criticism while launching leftist attacks on the Bush Administration. Coulter's refusal to regard the widows as beyond reproach threw the Left into a frenzy. Senators Clinton and Lautenberg denounced her; other Democrats called for her books to be banned.

Jewish liberals are now using a similar tactic by prefacing their attacks on Israel with claims of moral superiority by virtue of their Jewish parentage. Fox News' token moonbat Alan Colmes, British MP Gerald Kaufman and Puffington Host blowhard Jeff Dorchen have all employed the device. As Shapiro writes:

For Jews who oppose Israel's right to defend herself, their Judaism is a convenient tactic utilized to silence critics. "Surely," they imply, "if I am a Jew, I must have a deeper and more abiding love for Israel than anyone else. If you challenge my arguments, you will first have to admit that I have the moral high ground. I have a personal stake in this matter."

Shapiro points out that though identity politics tends to dominate discussion, it is almost always illegitimate, because "even if you have a personal stake in an issue, your ideas may be terrible." But in this case, the identity politics angle is worse — it's a lie:

The self-hating Jews who now attack Israel's most basic aspect of sovereignty don't care a whit about Judaism. They may have been born Jewish, they may enjoy matzo ball soup, they may go to a Reconstructionist synagogue once in a while to worship nothingness, but the tenets of Judaism mean nothing to them. These Jews care about Judaism the way Madonna cares about Catholicism. When it comes to the daily strictures of Judaism, these Jews are nowhere to be found. But as soon as it becomes politically advantageous to tout their Judaism, they stand front and center, birth certificate held aloft.
Identity politics is a canard when it comes to Judaism. Being born Jewish says nothing about whether you care for Israel, because being a Jew is about more than emerging from a Jewish uterus. A secular humanist, born a Jew, is still a secular humanist. Noam Chomsky is a Jew, but he is also a twisted and evil thinker who pines for Israel's destruction. Tony Judt is a Jew, but he hopes that one day Israel will be wiped from the map. Are Chomsky and Judt immune from criticism because they are Jews?

As far as Shapiro is concerned, it's impossible to be Jewish in a meaningful sense without supporting Israel:

The believing Jew is tied to Israel because God gave the land of Israel to the Jewish people; the believing Jew is tied to strong Israeli self-defense because God mandated such self-defense in the Torah. A Jew who believes in his religion may without question claim that his Judaism demonstrates his commitment to Israel. It is a foul and rank political convenience for those who care nothing about Judaism to flout their Jewish birth as some kind of defense for their cowardly and foolish surrender-first ideals.

But even some full-time Jews fail to support Israel. Rabbi Dovid Feldman of Jews United Against Zionism has been screaming that Israel must be "totally dismantled, and the entire Holy Land should be returned to the indigenous Palestinian population" — which would require ethnically cleansing the area of Jews.

Blissfully unaware of how the current violence started, Keren Batiyov of Jewish Voice for Peace raves of Hezbollah:

Since they didn't initiate it, I would see that it's Israel's responsibility to withdraw and come to a ceasefire.

If certain Jews want to destroy Israel, does that make destroying Israel a good idea? That was too easy, here's a harder question: Can a house divided against itself stand?
