Ivan Milat Gets His TV Back
Good news for serial killers: Australia's Ivan Milat, incarcerated for abducting and murdering seven backpackers in the early 1990s, is getting back his television and toasted sandwich maker.
These special perks were confiscated a few weeks ago, due to public outrage. But now Department of Corrective Services chief psychologist Anne Young has determined that the practice of rewarding Milat for good behavior with these luxury items should resume. He also gets phone calls three times a week and visits on weekends.
Examples of the behavior Milat has exhibited while in prison include a failed escape attempt in 1997, possessing a hacksaw blade in 1999, and attempting to kill himself by swallowing razor blades and staples in 2001.
When they took his boob tube away, Milat promised to take another stab at suicide. He was moved to a "safe cell" for observation. After all, society wouldn't want to miss out on Milat's future contributions.
Relatives of his victims are less than thrilled by the decision — not that it makes any difference.
