Even Moonbats Celebrated the Fourth

Moonbats in their haven Santa Cruz, California celebrated the Fourth of July yesterday as you might expect: by publicly torching Old Glory at their "Second Annual Old Time American Flag Burn."

About 25 "revelers" took part in the event, which occurred at a burn barrel at Seabright State Beach.

As for their motivation, 32-year-old organizer Sha Lar explained:

It seemed like a good idea to burn some flags just because we can.

Another 30-something participant clarified that he wanted to "reclaim the flag" by setting it on fire, and announced that

Not only those who support President George W. Bush can wave the red white and blue.

But Elijah Manchester, a 16-year-old who just happened to be on the beach, didn't understand what they hoped to accomplish by burning the symbol of free speech. Maybe there's hope for the future.

Being a liberal myself, I have to distance myself from that group, those are wackos who have odd sense of free speech.

Be fair and don't use "Old Glory in the hands of progressives" statement, as They are not progressive.

Dont these flag burning nuts know they are contributing to GLOBAL WARMING (or is it now just CLIMATE CHANGE) and increasing their carbon footprint? Plus most flags are synthetic fabric which spews acrid black toxic smoke into the air.

If I want to express myself by burning a sofa in the middle of the street; should I be allowed to?

Oh, couple this with the Howard Zinn essay and few thousand anti-flag, anti-4th-of-July comments on DailyKos and I think it's pretty fair to equate flag-hatred with left-wing moonbattery.

Burn a flag, stop a tornado!

How did you get a picture of a flag burning with out burning a flag?
Seems to me you are freedom hating commie.

Phil, dive into your imagination pool - a lot of things in holywood films that seem to be burning and looks like real fire is not really fire. Science is way past the "if there is smoke, there is fire" state. Have you heard of Photoshop? Very good tool to fool people and get their hatred ("freedom hating commie") come out.

Burning a flag brands you as a "freedom hating commie", yet it is ok to own a gun and shoot people, lynch people, discriminate based on race, sex and the rest...

Who says it's okay to do those things, DJ? Aside from the owning a gun part -- the Constitution says that.

(Well, technically, the Constitution protects our preexisting right to own a gun, but you get the point.)
