Could Dems Lose to a RINO in Massachusetts?

Massachusetts — the state that inflicted on the world both Hanoi John Kerry and Michael Dukakis — is the very belly of the beast when it comes to moonbattery. The Bay State was the only one carried by the wacky George McGovern in 1972. Its current representatives in the Senate perfectly personify the term "liberal elitist." Yet even here, voters are anything but thrilled with characters like Hillary Clinton and Al Gore.

Scott Rasmussen, who predicted the 2004 presidential vote to within half a percentage point, has released a poll finding that Massachusetts would choose John McCain over Shrillary or Prince Albert as a presidential candidate.

According to Rasmussen:

It's not clear whether these results tell us more about the weakness of Clinton and Gore or about the strength of John McCain as a potential candidate. It's probably a bit of both.

There's a third factor to consider: just how far to the Left "Lettuce" McCain has wandered, with his fervent opposition to border control and his apparent belief that the First Amendment doesn't apply to political speech.

As the Democratic Party is drawn ever further toward the lunatic fringe by the maniacs at Daily Kos and MoveOn.org, it is creating a vacuum for RINOs to fill. Unless this trend is reversed, the good news is that Dems will probably not be reinfesting the White House in 2008. The bad news is that the Republican who defeats them may be a Democrat in all but name.
