An Idiot in Bloom
If RINOs have you wondering just how far to the left a politician can go and still qualify as a Republican, the answer is: Michael Bloomberg. Here's what NYC's Mayor Mike had to say to a Senate committee on illegal immigration the other day, regarding the half million illegal aliens he estimates live in his city:
Although they broke the law by illegally crossing our borders ... our city's economy would be a shell of itself had they not, and it would collapse if they were deported. The same holds true for the nation.
Of course, the issue isn't really the feasibility of deporting every last illegal alien. The issue is whether we are going to start taking our own laws and national sovereignty seriously, so that others might do the same.
As for trying to defend the border with Mexico, Bloomberg is philosophical:
[Y]ou might as well sit on the beach and tell the tide not to come in.
Too bad illegal aliens don't stand accused of smoking in public or worse yet, exercising an American citizen's constitutional right to own a firearm. Then anarchism would lose its appeal for Bloomie.
Alan Gottlieb, Chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, was forced to conclude that Bloomberg is "a blooming idiot." As Gottlieb notes:
He doesn't seem at all alarmed that among the millions of illegal aliens sneaking into this country are criminals and possible terrorists. But evidently, he thinks that scenario is far preferable to one in which law-abiding citizens can arm themselves against thugs, including ones that are here illegally.
What do you expect from a liberal Democrat? But I'm forgetting again already: Bloomberg is officially a Republican.

Of course the issues IS THE FEASIBILITY OF DEPORTING EVERY ILLEGAL ALIEN.
What is your vision for guarding the border? The great walls of America?
It already costs too much to keep our criminals in buidings. Think how much manpower it would take to keep others out.
Who can blame them for wanting in? Let's face it, our country rocks. And you don't need cigarettes or firearms to get them to work. We were born a nation of immigrants. Yet so many see it fit to keep other immigrants out. I'd rather enforce a national language requirement than build thousands of mile of walls.
"The issue is whether we are going to start taking our own laws and national sovereignty seriously, so that others might do the same."
What's the implication here? Are we going to start opening fire on runners?

I just read the articles and comments posted on your web site. I hope and pray all of you live long enough to regret your words of hatred, unkindness and pure evil.

So, batty, there's about four billion people in the world who would like to come to America. Should we let them all in? Can they stay at your house?
Do you think there's not yet enough urban sprawl in the USA? Do you think there are too many emergency rooms still open? Do you think the schools are not overcrowded enough? Do you think there aren't yet enough cars on the road?
And as for people at the lower end of the income scale whose wages are already being undercut by illegals. Well, screw them, I guess. I mean, people whine like stuck pigs when jobs are outsourced to India. But nobody seems to care than an unstoppered flood of cheap, illegal labor achieves the same effect.

He is exactly that a liberal and a democrat.
Why or why can't these RHINO's come out of the closet completely and just change their party, and leave true Republicans the heck alone. I am so sick of these jerks.
You did such a great post on this, thank you for all the links, the whole thing.

Wait, Bloomberg's a Republican???
*smack* Oh yeah!...I always forget that. Well you know, in NYC he's a right-winger, relatively speaking. Rudy's practically Pat Buchanan, by their standards.
