Flower Children Assault Federal Agents
The Rainbow Family is a loose coalition of moonbats who describe themselves like this:
Some say we're the largest non-organization of non-members in the world. We have no leaders, and no organization. To be honest, the Rainbow Family means different things to different people. I think it's safe to say we're into intentional community building, non-violence, and alternative lifestyles. We also believe that Peace and Love are a great thing, and there isn't enough of that in this world. Many of our traditions are based on Native American traditions, and we have a strong orientation to take care of the Earth. We gather in the National Forests yearly to pray for peace on this planet.
In a word, they're hippies. But it's not all peace and love with the Rainbow Family. In one of at least three clashes near Steamboat Springs, Colorado recently, these flower children attacked U.S. Forest Service officers.
There are already about 5,000 Rainbow flakes at a campsite in the Routt National Forest for an event not scheduled to begin until tomorrow. The Forest Service has refused to grant them a permit to camp there, because they are in an area where up to 60% of the trees have been killed by a Beatle I mean beetle infestation and the risk of a fire is high. The narrow dirt access road would quickly become clogged with trapped campers if one were to break out. Sanitation could also be a problem, as is often the case with hippies.
Fifteen officers who were attempting to assert some sort of authority were surrounded by 200 unwashed weirdoes in what must have resembled a scene from a George Romero movie. Verbal abuse escalated to physical violence. A female officer took an elbow in the face; another officer was nailed in the leg with a rock; others were slugged. They were able to arrest only one hippie before using their batons and pepper spray to enable a retreat.
The next day forestry officials met with the "elders of the Rainbow Family," and were told that the younger generation can't help behaving like untamed savages because they come from an inner-city environment.
Any hippies who are actually brought to justice for violating the camping ban face a piddling fine of $135, including court costs.
Forest fires can actually serve a benevolent purpose, by clearing out the deadwood. But I suppose the Forest Service won't be able to take that into account in this situation.

Good lord! There are still living hippies? I thought they had all died out and been converted to oil a long time ago. Sheesh...live and learn.

There's one word that explains this kind of behavior: Tofu.
It's part of an Atheist, Red Chinese plot to weaken the moral fibre of our God-fearing country, and when coupled with Dr. Bronner's soap, well, you've seen the results for yourself.

P.S. Any Howard Dean sightings at the Gathering?
Posted by: The Right Reverend Rabbi Judah at July 1, 2006 3:15 AM
you are all brain washed! This page is pure propaganda. Go to the camping site yourself and see what its about. The only information you have was given to you by the governmnent, and that doesn't make it true!

What it's about, Doug, is poor forest management policies (i.e.: non-management) created to appease tree-hugging moonbats resulting in unhealthy forests, which hippies in their desire to resist on blanket principle even the minor limits a sensible exercise of governmental authority places on the exercise of their lifestyle may now end up torching.
I don't believe in the "karma" or "cosmic justice" that Rainbow Family/hippie types espouse, but if they start a conflagration in the forest their ilk has helped to kill and then themselves go up in smoke as a result, I might be prompted to reconsider.

I LEFT that horrible group a long time ago. I can tell you how they victimize people! They hurt their animals. They hurt their own vulnerable people. I actually believed their garbage about "peace and love". They are what yo say they are! MOONBATS is a nice word for them! THEY ARE DANGEROUS!
Example: they let a sucidally depressed woman stay that way for YEARS and they made fun of her and did not get her any professinal mental health treatment. They would stop her from killing herself for a while but would then let her try killing herself at a lot of their gatherings. They hid her in a tent.
A retarded young man was at a large rainbow gathering and he had staph infection all over his body and his RF caregivers (may have been living off his disability check?) had him sleep under their schoolbus with their dogs in the pouring rain because he "misbehaved"!
These VULNERABLE people are exploited by other RF people. But the RF will not really do anything to get them real help.
They live off of these disabled memebers and then they claim the disabled members "drain energy" from the healthy members!
They take from their own sick people. They will deny it.
I left that disgusting group a long time ago.
They act all politically correct, but they hurt their most vulnerable members and make fun of their most vulnerable members.
They EXPOLIT their most vulnerable members who are most dependent on them! The authorities are unaware of these abuses.

Ex RF-Guy: In this world, the Good are punished and the Bad are rewared. In the next world, it's the other way around. Hell will be filled with hippies.

i have attended numerous gatherings and after the springerville gathering in az i will never attend again for the reasons listed below
a. who has the ability to take off an entire month to organize this event. it dawned on me that the answer is the people that are still living their glory days but in reality are just pathetic caricatures of themselves...it is the one time a year they can find the affirmation they are seeking .......it is just too sad b. they also find a ready crowd to listen to them pontificate on the issues of today .....

If YOU Prince of Leaves, PERSONALLY saw this ill treatment of the vulnerable, and did not report it to the proper authorities, YOU are just as guilty because YOU allowed it to continue.
In a crowd of 10-20 thousand people you report 2 who were mistreated. I imagine the odds would be higher in any group. Nobody sees it all, but what I saw impressed me immensely. Ever see any other group feed 10,000 people for free for a week? That alone is amazing! And likely, the forest will be in MUCH better shape after the Family finishes cleanup, than it was before. Get the facts right.

FOREST SERVICE had this to say...
Members say they will remain on the land into August,
helping to clean up, reseed, remove footbridges and
return the land to its natural state.
"There's a large number that will stay behind to help the Forest Service
with the rehab, and there are a large number that will stay behind just to
camp out because they are transient and really don't have anywhere else to
go," she said.
"As far as we were concerned, they were good guests," Zopf said. "The
environmental ethic that they live and that they practiced, at least in
Routt County, was exemplary."

Seems some people are still afraid of those who live freely. I've only been to 1 gathering, but have to say, saw none of the mistreatment mentioned above. ALSO, it's important to recognize their help in the aftermath of Katrina. They weren't constrained by beurocracy like FEMA, and provided FREE food and assistance (clothing, food, physical labor, legal, and medical assistance, ALL VOLUNTARILY!

This was really kinda funny to read! I can't believe what people will say who don't know what they're talking about. "Prince of Leaves"... you talked about all of the mistreatment you saw... you really did need to report it to someone... that's terrible if you left that continue. Did you report it? Also, that is VERY much NOT the norm. Think of how much more abuse happens in "normal" society. No one ever said it was perfect at gatherings or that the people ALL believe in peace and love. Many people DO come out of cities where they learned violence as a solution to problems. You will always find people that will be a bad example of what a group is. You shouldn't judge the entire group based on a few irresponsible folks. There are SO many great people living in the woods. I think some people are just scared of what they don't understand. I am scared of what I don't understand... the government... they scare the crap out of me because we've given them so much power over us... there is my "vent" for the day. I can tell you that I don't agree with everything that I see in the woods... but there is A LOT of love out there also. Please don't make such broad judgements and please don't write about what you don't really understand. You're wasting your own time and energy. By the way, there are gatherings going on almost non-stop around the world... so, it's not a once a year thing. And, the folks that say they are "EX-Rainbows"... did you just have some bad experiences or do you really think it's ALL bad? Maybe the people you hung out with while you were there were just jerks??? Go spend some time at the Jesus Camps... they will love you out of your socks (or sandals, if you prefer)! I'll be there, and I'll be trying to make it a beautiful place for you when you arrive. Leave your anger at the front gate- truly lovin' you-

Ooops... sorry... I guess it was "ex-rf guy" and not "prince of leaves" that made the comments about "mistreatment" at Gatherings. The layout on this site makes it look like the name of the person is above the actual post. The name is under the post... very odd layout.

Sorry, tattered. I would have simplified the site if I had known hippies would be reading it.
