A Word of Encouragement for Hanoi John
Cheesesteaks being in the news lately is a reminder that John Kerry should buck up after his embarrassing 12% finish in a recent Iowa poll. People may have caught on that he's not presidential material, but he is always a serious contender for Upper Class Twit of the Year, as he proved in South Philly back in 2003 by ordering a cheesesteak with Swiss cheese.
At least he didn't specify Gruyère. A proper cheesesteak is made with Cheez Whiz, although American and provolone are also options.
Then Kerry tried to eat the sandwich in dainty mouselike nibbles, which is about as appropriate as cramming four hors d'oeuvres in your mouth at once at a snooty Back Bay soiree.
Don't give up, Hanoi John! We're really looking forward to more magic moments like these in 2008.

If he was a true winner of the Monty Python Upper Class Twit of the Year, then two years later we would not be hearing from Jean Francois Kerrie since he would be pushing up daisies while pining for the fjords.

I hate to give John "I don't see a problem with holding opposing positions at the same time" Kerry the benefit of any doubt, and certainly his staff should have briefed him about the local foodstuffs, but that picture isn't really all that bad. Nobody looks dignified while eating (sexy, maybe, but not with a cheesesteak). This gets exaggerated in the case of politicians because they tend to be acutely AWARE that they don't look dignified while eating.
Kerry looks like an executive trying to eat something messy, while not getting it on his clothes. Maybe he has an afternoon meeting with the senior VP of his division.
Frankly, its the most reasonable picture of the silly sonofabitch I've seen to date.

What an utter douchebag- everyone knows you don't get lettuce and tomato on a cheesesteak, either- that's called a cheesesteak hoagie, and is the preferred foodstuff of wussies.
