Spitzer Spits at the Constitution

Eliot Spitzer, New York's Attorney General and probable next Governor, doesn't think much of the constructionist view that the Constitution says what it says, not what our rulers might chose to pretend that it says. Spitzer opines:

As a citizen, and as the state's lawyer, I believe in an evolving Constitution. A flexible Constitution leaves room for us to consider not merely how the world once was, but how it ought to be.

Yes, that's why Congress can amend the Constitution. But lawsuit-happy leftists like Spitzer would rather rule by litigation than legislation — there's less interference from voters. The next Governor will get to fill at least two slots on New York's seven-member court.

The many people the overtly thuggish Spitzer has threatened, who include former Goldman Sachs Chairman John Whitehead and Congresswoman Sue Kelly (R-NY), could probably agree that the idea of this guy picking state supreme court judges is not reassuring.

Spitzer played soccer as a kid. By his own account, he was the "enforcer" of the team, who "took people out":

You play hard, you play rough, and hopefully you don't get caught.

That sums up his style as Attorney General. Basically he's a cross between Ralph Nader and Don Corleone.

What makes Spitzer truly frightening is that with the support he gets from the fawning MSM, he could one day run for President.

Spitzer: As scary as he looks.

Scary, indeed. As well as one of the primary reasons our founding fathers established a Constitution - to prevent guys like this from running roughshod over the nation they fought and bled to build.

Of course these guys would rather rule by litigation - less than 10% of the population can "afford" to litigate, and fewer that that can afford to litigate a principle (as opposed to litigation which might actually afford them some financial relief). There's a reason my law school professor reminded us repeatedly that in any litigation, the only ones who TRULY "win" are the lawyers.

Spitzer is a thug who gets his way by intimidation. The fact that he was an "enforcer" on his soccer team as a child does not surprise me. He's extremely popular with the Left because his target is big business, the bogeyman of the Left.

What a disaster if he actually wins the governorship of NY!

He's no thug; just a rich punk who had a Daddy willing to (illegally) fund Junior's political ambitions. The only time one of his high profile cases got near an actual courtroom he got his clock cleaned.

He may be leading big in the polls right now, but you watch: Wall Street is gonna pick an opponent, fund the guy enough to make it a real fight, and then rip EllieMay to shreds in an advertising blitz fronted by made up, 527-styled groups. Spitzer may still win, but he will be burned to a crisp in the process, and have no juice to make the career asssholes in Albany do anything he wants them to do. Shelly "the Shitheel" Silver and Dumbo Bruno will dictate the terms and EllieMay will do whatever they tell him to do.

This state's politics is a frickin' joke.

He looks like one of our own thugs: Charles "I am not an elephant" Clarke, current engaged in letting out foreign prisoners without deporting them while trying to stiff us with ID cards.
