Song of the Raging Grannies
The Spanish version of the Star-Spangled Banner may be irritating, but it can't compare to the version of God Bless America sung by the Raging Grannies. It starts off like this:
God help America
We need you bad
Cause our leaders
Are cheaters
And they're making the world really mad
The song, as well as the tactic of getting themselves arrested by invading recruiting centers, are inventions of the Tucson chapter of this cult of kitschy moonbats. Both were copied in New York City, where a bunch of Grannies delighted the media by blocking the entrance to the military recruitment center in Times Square last fall.
"We were in papers everywhere, even Pravda," chirped one of the Tucson grannies — surely a high honor for any moonbat, though Pravda isn't what it was under Stalin; some suggest it's no longer as far to the left as the New York Times.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the anti-American activism of some of the Grannies dates back to the execution of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg for stealing U.S. secrets that good old Uncle Joe used to develop nuclear weapons. Astonishingly, these people are then lauded — in the same sentence! — for "their commitment to free speech and dissent."
I wonder what would have happened to a bunch of useless old kooks wearing tie-dyed shawls who tried to disrupt military business in the Soviet Union.
