Brokeback Mounties, Lavender Graduations
The gayification of our culture is proceeding at a pace that should turn North America into a cross between a John Waters movie and a San Francisco bath house by the time Arabic becomes the official language of France.
Next month two male members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are scheduled to "marry" each other in an official ceremony complete with scarlet dress uniforms. They may have their colleagues form an honor guard for them.
Said Mounties spokesman Sgt. Frank Skidmore:
Certainly, the RCMP welcomes a workforce that is representative of Canadian society, and that is the case here.
As registered domestic partners, the lovebirds already have the same basic legal rights as a married couple. But everyone loves a wedding.
Meanwhile, USA Today reports that a growing number of schools are holding "lavender graduations" to honor LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, "transgender") students. More than 50 campuses are holding them this year. Participants often receive rainbow-colored tassels to put on their mortarboards.
As University of California regent, Ward Connerly tried to bar funding for separate graduation ceremonies based on identity politics, on the grounds that the balkanization of our society into a collection of isolated victim groups isn't doing us any good. Unsurprisingly, his attempt failed.
