McCarthy Case Makes It Official: MSM Sides With Terrorists Against USA
Posted by Dave Blount at April 25, 2006 8:05 AM
If you're appalled that former CIA officer Mary McCarthy isn't in prison for impeding the struggle against Islamic terrorism with her politically motivated leaks of classified information, just be glad her fate isn't in the hands of the fifth-column media to which she whispered the secrets that were subsequently broadcast. The MSM quite openly wishes this disgraced traitor were still on the job.
McCarthy has acknowledged giving classified information to a reporter — namely Dana Priest of the Washington Post, who was sickeningly rewarded with a Pulitzer Prize for making it public. The information regards secret prisons run by the CIA in Eastern Europe and elsewhere, specifically to deal with international terrorists. If the CIA kept certain facilities secret, there is probably a reason. Disclosing such information would obviously undermine the War on Terror, as well as relations with our allies, on whose cooperation we depend for our safety.
Sam Donaldson of ABC bizarrely characterized McCarthy's treachery as "a victory for the American people" and managed to compare it to 1960s lunch counters. NPR's embarrassingly dim-witted Juan Williams called it an "act of conscience." Bob Schieffer of the apparently unreformed CBS News claimed that McCarthy was fired just for "hanging out with news reporters" and called her termination "dubious."
Hanoi John Kerry, who has some experience with treason, thinks McCarthy's crime is mitigated because she was "leaking to tell the truth," and Kerry is "glad she told the truth." Putting in a good word for her was the least he could do; after all, she contributed $2,000 to his 2004 campaign, as did her apparent husband (that year the two gave $9,500 to Democrats overall).
But was McCarthy telling the truth? Even the New York Times, which also picked up a Pulitzer by publishing secret information at the expense of our security, has cast doubt on the story. Just because the information is classified doesn't mean it's true. Sometimes false information is created to draw our country's enemies out of the woodwork — and they sure are crawling out.
