Katie Couric: Same Liberal Taste, With Less Than Half the Gravitas

Katie Couric's record at Today gives a clear indication of what we can expect from CBS News, now that it's official that she will assume the mantle of Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather: a perkier version of more of the same — that is, relentless left-wing spin. Media Research Center documents examples, complete with video. A few samples:

On Catholic values:

Some of the values, depending on your perspective... may be deemed wholesome, but in other ways, I think, people will see this community as eschewing diversity and promoting intolerance.

On ending frivolous filibusters by insisting on up-or-down votes to confirm judges:

If the "nuclear option" is played out, don't you think voters are going to be disgusted with all politicians and say come on, get out of the sandbox?

On a 2005 delegation to the Vatican:

Were you surprised, Archbishop Foley, that President Carter was not a part of the delegation given the fact that the Pope visited President Carter at the White House?

On the left-wing demagogue Al Gore:

...Al Gore is considered sort of a hardcore centrist, if you will.

On the heart-lifting rescue of Jessica Lynch:

Do you think that somehow, this, your rescue was, was manipulated by the government in order to, sort of, gin up support for this war?

On the man who is by far the worst ex-President America has ever seen:

...[Jimmy Carter] is considered by many as one of the finest former Presidents this country has ever seen.

On the Nobel Prize that was explicitly awarded to Carter for publicly knifing his own country in the back:

I mean, it's so wonderful...and so well-deserved.

On the absurd tinfoil hat theory that Bush knew in advance about 9/11:

What did he know and when did he know it?

On the moribund French economy and that country's mandated limits on how much time you can spend working:

The French, they've got it right, don't they?

On banishing Elian Gonzalez to the totalitarian hellhole from which his mother had died rescuing him:

Some suggested over the weekend that it's wrong to expect Elian Gonzalez to live in a place that tolerates no dissent or freedom of political expression. They were talking about Miami.

On a pair of tragic murders that she creatively linked to Christianity:

But this is actually not necessarily about the right wing, but perhaps a climate that some say has been established by religious zealots or Christian conservatives. There have been two recent incidents in the news, I think, that upset most people in this country, that is the dragging death of James Byrd Junior and the beating death of Matthew Shepard.

On non-liberal media:

Some people are very concerned about talk shows, radio talk shows in general, of course. Most of them around the country have a decidedly conservative bent. The rap that some people give them is that they reflect the views of a very vocal minority, the extremists in this country, and don't really reflect the true nature of political debate in the United States. And, as a matter of fact, they tend to be quite divisive and sort of have a bad, a negative impact on the country.

On the courage former New Jersey Governor Jim Florio showed by raising taxes and destroying jobs:

Just last night on television I saw your opponent for Governor complaining about your record, saying how you had raised taxes, how it had cost 300,000 jobs. Are you afraid your politically courageous moves are, in fact, going to cost you the election?

On the sanctity of human life:

So you don't think the right wing should be so narrow-minded or rigid when it comes to abortion?

CBS News has given up trying to be taken seriously, but most definitely has not giving up grinding its axes.

It's only been 20 years since I tuned into CBS News... Looks like I can easily go another 20.

This is sort of like rearranging the chairs on the deck of the Titantic, isn't it?

The status quo will not change around my old Sylvania. Never watched the "Today show" or CBS News.
No winners here, when all you have is leftie losers in newsrooms at the major networks.

I think Katies colonoscopy caused her massive brain damage. They are trying to turn the CBS Evening News into The Daily Show minus the lame attempts at comedy.
