Invasion Backlash

The heavy-handed shows of force that illegal immigrants and their advocates have indulged in on our streets are having a predictable effect: backlash. By now most of us have had enough Mexican flags flapped in our faces.
In metro Phoenix, students at Apache Junction High School found a Mexican flag flying in place of Old Glory in front of the Navy ROTC building. They yanked it down and burned it.
This is an entirely natural and healthy reaction. When someone illegally comes onto your property and gives you a shove, you had better shove back, or it won't be your property for long.
As Kathleen Parker put it on Chron.com:
There's nothing like the sight of 500,000 protesters on U.S. turf, demanding rights in Spanish while waving Mexican flags, to stir Americans from their siestas.
Bad relations between Hispanics and Caucasians are in the best interest of neither. The same goes for Mexicans and Americans. But if one group tries to impose itself on the other, conflict is inevitable. It's good that we're finding that out now, rather than waiting for a demographic situation that will set us up for a second Civil War.
Immigration from Mexico is great — but it is a matter of national survival that we not let it exceed a rate that can be successfully assimilated.
