Happy Tax Day

Tax day is a good time to ask ourselves just where all that money goes. Billions of dollars go to the United Nations, helping to fund entities like the U.N. Disarmament Commission, to which Iran has just been elected to the vice-chair position.

As you might expect, the Disarmament Commission's mission features preventing the spread of nuclear weapons to countries like Iran, which is currently under threat of sanctions from the U.N. Security Council because of its rush to acquire nuclear weapons.

Dr. Dore Gold, former Israeli Ambassador to the U.N., observes the obvious:

Clearly the Iranians have an interest in establishing disarmament rules that protect their clandestine nuclear weapons program. ... The U.N. has long ago forfeited its role as an international body safeguarding international peace and security and this is just the latest proof of why the U.N. doesn't work.

Here's a better use for the fortune we flush down the United Nations every year: Why don't we just gather the money in great bales and burn it at power plants? Or if environmentalists wouldn't like that, maybe we could have the bills recycled as heavy duty toilet paper. It would be nice to get some sort of use out of it.
