Chirac Surrenders

At least Jacques Chirac is keeping French tradition intact. Predictably, he has caved in to rioting hooligans by scrapping the modest reform that might have allowed the hyper-regulated French economy enough breathing room to reduce unemployment.
While Chirac rolled over and showed his belly, Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin actually stood up for the necessity of employers being able to fire employees. No doubt he will pay a price for his courage, though France will pay a bigger price for Chirac's cowardice.
It appears that France is ruled not by democracy and law, but by irresponsible mobs. Thanks to the illegal immigration rallies that have been choking American cities, we have an opportunity to prove that the same is not true of the USA.
