Slick Willie Covers All Bases on the UAE Ports Issue
I guess this is another example of the triangulation strategy we saw so much of from the Clintons when they were in the White House.
While Hillary breaks crystal and makes dogs cover their heads with their paws with her shrill objections to the UAE ports takeover, the other Clinton has advised Dubai officials on how to sooth American anxieties.
Slick Willie recommended the 45-day delay to allow for congress to investigate, possibly based on the theory that by then the media will have lost interest and no one will remember to object.
Not that Mr. Clinton is not on board with Mrs. Clinton's proposed legislation to block the UAE takeover. According to his spokesman, Clinton supports Shrillary's position on the issue and believes that state-owned companies should not own American port operations.
Meanwhile, Fox News reports that according to the chief operating officer of Dubai Ports World, Bill called a member of the Dubai royal family and lobbied to have his former press secretary Joe Lockhart hired as the emirate's Washington spokesman to help push through the deal.

It is the neocons who are pushing the surrender deal of our ports (including two military ports in California) with the UAE.
Hillary may very well be the next President of the United States, but she hasn't been much of a true progressive lately (even though unlike Condoleeza, she at least earns her keep).
The fact that this UAE deal was almost pushed through without any intelligent or critical dialogue on the entire issue of foreign domination of our ports was absolutely yet ANOTHER failure of the Bush Crime Family. It's important to realize that the Bush Crime Family has serious ties with both the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the two countries where the 9/11 hijackers originated, as well as Communist China, who already control several key US port facilities as well as our nuclear defense transport.
It's really very fraudulent and silly to try to blame the Clintons for the failures of the Bush administration and neoconservative policies. All it proves is that the Republicans cannot protect Americans from terrorism, and never really wanted to in the first place.

The late Buddy is pissed here. He wants to know, "Who let the dogs out?"
Posted by: Eneils Bailey at March 3, 2006 7:02 AM
Notice that the donks, while flogging the port issue to the max... haven't put forth any legislation to actually improve port security. This tells me they aren't actually interested in better security, they just want another issue to bash Bush with.
Posted by: V the K at March 3, 2006 8:02 AM
Oh yes, hashfanatic, those terrible neocons (not true conservatives!) are at it again, pushing through that traitors ports deal that will give control of our ports to - gasp - Arabs!
This might be a good deal and it might be a bad one. I'm willing to listen to facts. Facts. But let's stop the hysteria.
However, I'll agree with V the K that the Dems are just in this to try and make themselves look tough on national security.

Why is it with all the issues we have going on with our current administration you people have such an infatuation with Billy? If you really want to talk about a strange collaberation, how about the Bush family and the Moonies??? Or even that the Moonies own your favorite Newspaper, the Washington Times...Oh is that why this Post is called Moonbattery?
I guess since being a Moonie or an Evangelical requires "blind" leaps of faith, it makes sense that the GOP base blindly follow the W train...
50,000 people dead and $300B American tax dollars spent in Iraq...D-mn liberals...
Osama still running free and Islamic fundamentalists gaining power in Iran, Iraq, Palastine, Egypt, Pakistan, Afghanistan since the invasion...D-mn Liberals...
American Savings in the red for the first time since the Depression...D-mn Liberals...
Top 30,000 families adding $1.5T to their net worth while 1.5 Million more people each year drop below the poverty line...D-mn Liberals...
The largest Federal Govt. EVER, excluding Homeland Security even, with government spending higher than any Democrat controlled Presidency or Congress...D-mn Liberals...
At least there's Billions to be made in mining the GOP angst...Shoot, if I had no morals like Ann, Rush and Michelle I could be doing some fleecing myself...

At least, they are prima facie evidence of why this site exists.
The bats sure have been flying in lately, haven't they?
Posted by: Eneils Bailey at March 3, 2006 9:18 AM
Yes, EB, it's amusingly ironic. Moonbats get upset because this site presumes them to be left-wing zombies detached from reality. So, to prove it, they come here to list off a bunch of Daily Kos talking points and rant about "the Bush Crime Family."
The truth is, Bush receives more criticism from any one of us than all Democrats combined ever received from all of them combined. We just recognize the difference between pointed criticisms and insane rants. We also recognize that it's possible to disagree with Bush on some issues, criticize his handling of other issues, and recognize those occasions when he does something right. Whereas to moonbats, everything Bush does is evil. Bush fails to prevent Katrina from overwhelming the levees (that were underfunded under Clinton, whose upgrades were opposed by environmentalists and the NYT, and what funding there was for the levees disappeared in the corrupt swamp of NOLA politics) - EVIL! Bush approves a deal letting a company owned by oil ticks to load and unload ships - EVIL! Bush brushes his teeth - EVIL!

First of all, we are not yet IN a position to put forth legislation regarding the preservation of America's ports in American hands.
The current houses, hamstrung by Republican rhetoric and special interest money, will NEVER allow such to be passed.
We ARE better on national security, the economy, etc. Look at the current state of the nation. Look at the fact that, five years after 9/11, there IS essentially no "Homeland Security" (less than five percent of all incoming cargo is currently screened, and I believe the estimate is far less at Elizabethport in New Jersey.
It is rocket science to simply install the scanning equipment on the cranes that unload them, so that EVERYTHING is screened before entry?
Well, apparently for the wingnuts it is.
Posted by: hashfanatic at March 3, 2006 11:29 AM
Excuse are like assholes. Everybody's got one and they all stink. There is absolutely no reason for the donks not to propose better port security legislation, and not to find bi-partisan sponsorship.
Actually there is. The donks are in a position where they can;t propose any actual solutions, because sensible solutions that appeal to the mainstream would alienate their left-wing base (like our Hemp-Loving friend above). If they propose legislation that would please MoveOn-Kos-George Soros and their other masters, they alienate the mainstream.
So, all they are left with is bitching about Bush and Republicans and whining about their "powerlessness."

I posted on the FNC Grapevine bit earlier but missed this other background info.
Is it possible to be too cynical about the Billary?
Posted by: The MaryHunter at March 3, 2006 5:18 PM
It's not bitching and whining to give you fair notice that we are finished with Republican fuckups in government, and we aim to do anything in our and God's power to rid ourselves of this cancer.
Whether or not you intend to fortify it during its demise is purely up to you.
If you don't want to ready yourself for a society that is ready to move forward, and won't be able to keep up with progress and change, well, that's not our responsibility to hold your hand and walk you through the transition.

Bitch with no solution? Is that some talking points you guys get to respond to simple facts.
My solution was to try my hardest to keep W out of office.

That was a done deal before the horses even got out of the starting gate.
Posted by: hashfanatic at March 3, 2006 11:38 PM
Would you all like some cheese with that whine?
Posted by: ex-expat at March 4, 2006 9:37 AM
Look, I only agree with Bush about 30% of the time (Taking the fight to the terrorists, democratizing the Middle East, cutting taxes, conservative SCOTUS picks). Find a Democrat I can agree with 40% of the time and I'll go for it.
And there's about 50% of the time, I just want to slap Bush upside the head. Prescription Drug Boondoggle? --- slap! Runaway spending --- slap! Underfunding the military --- slap! Campaign Finance Reform -- slap! Open borders--- slap! slap! slap! slap! There are other areas --- like the port deal, the Katrina response where I think the criticisms of Bush have been insane and over-the-top. There are other areas --- like the wiretaps and Gitmo --- where Bush is 100% right and his critics are 100% wrong.
The Democrats, I pretty much want to slap upside the head all the time. Mark Warner is their hero for pushing through the largest tax increase in Virginia's history. SLAP! The Democrats criticize Bush not for spending too much, but for not spending enough. SLAP! The Democrats want to impeach Bush for doing the best job he can to try to protect us from terror. SLAP! The Democrats support groups like the ACLU that are hostile to Christians and to the Free Exercise of religion. SLAP! The Democrats embrace an extreme environmental regulation scheme that trashes the idea of property rights. SLAP! SLAP! The Democrats support restrictions on Free Speech through campaign finance reform and regulation of the media (the "Fairness" Doctrine) SLAP! SLAP! SLAP! The Democrats want to raise taxes so they can better subsidize bureaucratis parasites and radical nutjob teachers like Jay Bennish. SLAP! The Democrats want to extend Constitutional protections to foreign terrorists SLAP! The Democrats go nuts because an Arab company is going to be the absentee owners of the company that runs the trucks and cranes at a few Port Terminals... But they go nuts at the suggestion that we might want to keep an eye on radical mosques and people who are making phone calls to al Qaeda. What the Hell is up with that?
Posted by: V the K at March 4, 2006 10:51 AM
Re-reading that last, it comes off a bit shrill, but the basic point remains. Bush sucks at most things, but the Democrat alternatives seem to suck at everything.
Posted by: V the K at March 4, 2006 4:21 PM
Oh, and, Hash Fanatic, if you can remain lucid enough, make sure you thank your Democrat buds for blocking any reform to social security. Now, I get to have 12 per cent of my income confiscated for the rest of my working life to pay into a retirement scheme (or is it 'scam') that will be brankrupt before I reach retirement age. Thank you, Democrats, for denying me the opportunity to invest at least part of that money in something that might actually still be around in thirty years. Thank you so bloody much.
Also, Hashbrains and Chuck, y'all must be really proud that your party has seized on naked, overt racism as the key to regaining power. Not that there is anything new to having racism in the Democrat agenda. "We don't want none o' them ragheads in our ports" is just the modern update to the Democrats "We don't want none o' them niggras in our schools" motto of the 1950's.

Don't worry, Vul Kan, we know what to do with "your" money.
We adults know exactly how to utilize it.
Posted by: hashfanatic at March 4, 2006 9:59 PM
Why put the "your" in quotes? It IS his money.
Remember folks, the government should serve the people, not the other way around. Your United States was set trundling along after a dispute over taxes, amongst other things, and it's quite sad to see so many people forgetting that lesson of history. Here in England we had two civil wars over the same subject, yet we've also forgotten.
The whole idea of social security is based on the premise that those with a steady income owe those without a cut, which is complete bollocks to start with, but it further rests on the idea that the government has the right to confiscate your property in order to make up that difference. The government has no moral right to do so; the idea of eminent domain is a hangover from the old monarchical assumptions of ownership. Here in the UK, our parliament exercises those powers with disgusting regularity, quite forgetting that it is only with the consent of the people that it exists; further, those powers are vested in it by the monarchy, and the monarchy itself only exists by the consent of the people - see the magna carta. It's unfortunate that previous monarchs have been so taxatious, to coin a phrase, but they had an excuse: they were stupid and didn't know any better. You americans don't have any excuse. Your entire existence as a nation is based oon the idea that government should be held accountable to the people, and should exist only at the sufferance of the people. You modern democrats and left-wingers assume that the people shoudl be held accountable to the government, and retain their rights only at teh sufferance of the government. This is a thoroughly misguided view. It led to, amongst other things, the massacres following the french revolution, the aforementioned english civil wars and any number of other horrible events in history.
You lust for power. The only way you see to get that power is to take it, to wrest it from those who have it already, without any regard for what people actually want. You then assume that the mere posession of power gives you the right to do whatever you want with it. The assumption that you are somehow superior to VtheK, merely because you beleive you know best, is at best arrogant and at worse a sign of a severe cognitive disorder. The idea that any one man, or any group, knows what's best for the majority is simply wrong. The only people that know what's truly best for me are myself and God. Everyone else is merely an advisor.
Incidentally I notice you didn't bother to answer VtheK's actual comments. You just assumed you were right and ran with the ad-homs. Projection again, I think...

You mean you're in the UK and you're telling US how our country's government and systems are to be presided over?
Good God, don't you have enough problems of your own in Finsbury Park to pontificate about?
Cheers, moron.
Posted by: hashfanatic at March 5, 2006 3:29 PM
I'm telling you how they originated and how you leftwingers have destroyed, or are in the process of destroying, all the essentialy goodness your founding fathers managed to wring from our rather chaotic version of democracy. Just as they've done here.
Posted by: Archonix at March 6, 2006 5:32 AM
You are more than welcome to test the waters in Saudi Arabia or the UAE, if you are not happy with the established order in countries that value freedom and human rights.
I don't recall bearing witness to botched illegal wars, covert smokescreen "terrorist" attacks, surrender of our ports and military industries to Wahhabist Muslims and Communist Chinese, a deficit that exceeds that of all prior administrations combined, entire urban populations wiped off the map by sabotaged levees and out-of-control real estate and oil interests prior to neocon fascism seizing power of the nation.
Real, everyday working Americans are simply not interested in your apocalyptic version of our future.
You all had your chance. Now, your fifteen minutes are over.

Chalk me up for being a tad bit disillusioned with W. But enough to actually back anyone from the left? ABSOLUTELY not. Our guys just suck a little less than your guys.

Drudge this morning, posts an article that Hillary was unware of Slick Willie's involvement. Hmmm, guess there's not much chit chat over dinner.
Posted by: ex-expat at March 6, 2006 11:25 AM
Jonathan, he'll probably chalk that up to impossibly vast voting fraud or possibly the ultra-high birthrates of the "religious right". From his posts, it's fairly obvious this hash obsessive is a bit of a conspiracy nut. Claiming 9/11 was an inside job and now claiming that the levees weren't merely underfunded, but actually sabotaged... kind of gives it all away really. :)
Posted by: Archonix at March 6, 2006 3:11 PM
Impossibly vast voter fraud? DUH!!
You freaks need to go to Venezuela and see how a free election REALLY works!
Oh, I forgot. Bunny Pants did teach us that "Oceans no longer protect us", no?
When Air Force One accidently flies into Mount Rushmore and the country is once again safe from these flesh-eating vultures, THAT'S when I'll believe a REAL plane hit the Pentagon!
Lemmings, I have your sea waiting for you.

Maybe if we get "Hot Military Stud" Jeff Gannon to sleep over and do for Rove what Monica did for Bill....
Oh, that's right. That didn't work the first one hundred times.
