Teachers Union Crook Assailed by Diminutive Demon

It's nice to know that not all of the money that unions extract from teachers goes to propping up the Democratic Party. In the case of former office manager Gwendolyn M. Hemphill and former treasurer James O. Baxter of the Washington Teachers Union, the Washington Times reports:

Union dues were used to pay for designer clothing and fur coats, silverware and a champagne cooler, antiques and art objects, wigs, plasma televisions, dental implants, $77,181 worth of tickets to basketball games, and Louis Vuitton and Chanel handbags, among other items.

Both were convicted on 23 counts of crimes that include embezzlement, money laundering, conspiracy and wire fraud. But now Hemphill is seeking leniency — on the grounds that she suffers from psychotic episodes in which she is menaced by "a small, dark-skinned person with a thin Roman nose, small lips and a spear, who is dressed like a native African."

Well, that would certainly excuse embezzling nearly $5 million over a period of 7 years. I would give Hemphill and her lawyers credit for originality, but I suspect they got the idea from watching Karen Black in Trilogy of Terror.
