Remember Chappaquiddick

Posted by Dave Blount at February 23, 2006 9:16 PM

Shouting down speakers like Ann Coulter will win you a wink and a nod on college campuses, but the two words "remember Chappaquiddick" can get you in hot water, as Paul Trost recently learned when he shouted them while walking out of a speech by Ted Kennedy at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Massachusetts.

"Most of the crowd gasped," Trost reports. "Then I walked out of the student center."

Once outside he was accosted by a campus police officer who took down his information and let him know that he would be hearing from school officials regarding disciplinary action. Trost wasn't arrested, and it's not clear what his fate will be.

A teacher called him ignorant and an embarrassment to the school, but combating ignorance was the whole point of Trost's outburst. Evidently some of his less "ignorant" fellow students knew nothing about the negligent homicide of Mary Jo Kopechne that Chappaquiddick Ted got away with by being a Kennedy.
