One-Way Respect

While the West trembles for fear that innocuous cartoons like this

might anger the nice Muslims and encourage them to launch more terrorist attacks, there is no expectation that any respect whatsoever should be shown by Muhammadans for Western beliefs.

In Saudi Arabia, for example, visitors routinely have their Bibles confiscated; reportedly the Bibles are then run through shredders. As CNSNews.com reported:

Reports from the Islamic world of the abuse of Bibles and other items important to Christians emerge from time to time, but generally have little impact — in contrast to the wave of Muslim anger sparked by a Newsweek report, since retracted, of Koran desecration by the U.S. military.

Danny Nalliah, an evangelical pastor who spent two years in Saudi Arabia, tells of a nun who tried to change planes in that enlightened land of religious tolerance:

Some fool [travel agent] had put her on a transit flight in Jeddah. You don't do that to a Catholic nun, because she's going to be tormented.
They opened her bag, went through her prayer book, put the prayer book through the shredder ... took the crucifix off her neck and smashed it, tormented her for many minutes.

It gets worse. In 2002, Palestinian terrorists associated with Yasser Arafat's Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade took over Bethlehem's Church of the Nativity — believed to mark the birthplace of Jesus. Among their many barbarous acts during the 39-day siege was using the Holy Bible for toilet paper.

But of course, respect is a one-way street when it comes to Muslims — which is apparently the way liberal dhimmis in the media think it should be.
