Oil Production Tanking Under Chavez reports that Venezuela is launching a program to convert vehicles to run on natural gas in an attempt to free up more gasoline for export.

But... isn't Venezuela swimming in oil? Why would it have to resort to drastic measures in order to save a few drops?

Publius Pundit offers some clues:

Russia the breadbasket ran out of wheat.
Cuba the sugar king ran out of sugar.
Vietnam the rice bowl ran out of rice.

Not to mention Zimbabwe, the former breadbasket of Africa, which now subsists on UN Food Aid — as observed by V the K, who asks, "What is it all of these places have in common?"

If communists ran the North Pole, it would run out of snow.

Chavez about to let loose a sneeze.

More proof that communists can't make good choices: Natural gas is an abnsolutely horrible way to power a car. It soots up the engine in no time, has no power and takes up a greater volume for less energy stored. They'd be better converting them to run on ethanol... but that would be sensible and economic, and wouldn't guarantee thousands of jobs in auto repair.

Maybe they could switch to methane made from pig sh*t? Just like they did 20 years ago in Mad Max 3: Beyond Thunderdome. Venezuela couldnt possibly stink any more than it does now (look at Hugos face.. he can barely stand the stink). So I see no downside.

Pat Robertson had the right idea about dealing with this clown.
