Muslims Go After Valentine's Day
Considering how many in the West seem willing to give up freedom of the press because Muslims disapprove of some bland Danish cartoons, there shouldn't be much resistance to Islamic demands that we do away with Valentine's Day.
The other day members of the Kashmiri Islamic group Dukhtaran-e-Millat stormed into gift and stationery shops, setting fire to anything that reminded them of the holiday some of us infidels will be celebrating tomorrow.
"We will not let anyone sell these cards or celebrate Valentine's Day," said Asiya Andrabi, the group's leader, as she held a burning poster in her hand. ...
She said that the raids were carried out "not to harm anyone but to make them realize that this is against Islam's teachings."
Mohammad Sarwar, owner of a stationery store, didn't much appreciate it:
They barged in, grabbed cards and posters and burnt them outside. Most of the cards were not even Valentine cards. It is difficult to do business with such threats looming overhead.
How unconscionable: does he really think he can put his own right to make a living ahead of the hurt feelings of those offended by his Valentine's cards?
