Czech Supermodel Back From Castro's Hell

The next time drooling idiots from the entertainment industry start to wax eloquent on the glories of the Castro regime, they might want to check to be sure Helena Houdova isn't in the audience. Along with psychologist Mariana Kroftova, Houdova was recently detained by Cuban police while taking photographs of a slum in Havana.

The Czech Foreign Ministry is far from satisfied with Cuba's explanation for their arrest, publicly asserting that Castro's dictatorship "clearly violated international law."

Houdova is one of those rare and precious beautiful people whose social activism is not a self-serving posture. Being from a country that recently managed to free itself from the earthly hell that is communism, she has focused on helping handicapped children, rather than spewing trendy lies about the benefits of left-wing dictatorships.

She went to Cuba with the intention of finding how her Sunflower foundation could help children there, specifically orphans, the handicapped, and those afflicted with AIDS. Unfortunately she found that assistance is very difficult to provide through official means, because the authorities refuse to admit that there are any problems.

Now that she is back from Tartarus, Houdova plans to display some of the pictures she took of Havana's wretched slums. The secret police stole her film, but she also had a memory card with digital images that she managed to hide in her brassiere. That the Cuban police apparently didn't think to look there proves that there is something profoundly wrong with Castro's regime.

While she wasn't cooling her heels in jail, she did more than take pictures:

Houdova said her meetings with dissidents, the wives of political prisoners, as well as with ordinary Cubans during her ten-day stay in Cuba made her recollect her childhood in Communist Czechoslovakia.

She also "personally ascertained the pathetic situation in several Cuban hospitals," a task the useful idiots in our media who constantly extol Cuban healthcare have evidently never gotten around to.

Wow! I admire Helena for her inside beauty also, and her courage...going to Cuba is courageous for anyone for anything legal. Especially for Helena, with the somehat predictable police attitude under Castro's regime, towards women. Is there a website for Helena and/or where can one learn more about her?

A couple of Helena Houdova links:

People in Need will be organizing an exhibition of the pictures she took in Cuba. For people who want to look at pictures right now, check out the galleries here.
