Blowhard Bond Goes Overboard

There is good news and bad news for the Civil Rights movement. The good news is: it accomplished its objectives. The bad news: it's still around, and having no legitimate purpose anymore, has degenerated into the most disrespectful self-parody imaginable, as personified by NAACP Chairman Julian Bond.

At a speech at Fayetteville State University last night, Bond opened his mouth wide enough to fit both feet inside. The rhetoric was so cartoonish, you would almost have to be a professional comedian to deliver it with a straight face. The Republicans are Nazis. The blacks who have held positions of great responsibility within the Bush Administration are "tokens." Bush is a liar who kills people. His judicial nominees are just like the Taliban. Et cetera.

As WorldNetDaily reports,

The talk so infuriated at least one black family in attendance among the 900 in the auditorium that they got up and walked out in protest.
"He went on and on name calling," said Lee Wilson. "I walked out in the middle of his speech with my wife and three kids"

It's not terribly surprising that Bond chooses not to be aware that the civil rights struggles of the 50s and 60s ended successfully. As of 2001, when he accused Bush's Cabinet officials of being "near canine" in their "devotion to the Confederacy," he didn't seem to have gotten word about the Civil War having ended.

Bond simply never ceases to amaze. Bernie Goldberg had a great chapter on him in "100 People Screwiing Up America." With his former NAACLP buddy Kwaesi Mfume running for US Senate against black GOP Lt. Gov. Michael Steele in my state of Maryland, I can't wait for Bond to lay into Steele as a "token" and other race-bating, in a black-on-black contest. (Still not clear who the Dem candidate will be yet, but one can dream...)

Bond is just part of a systemic campaign of hate directed at Republicans using the most scurrilous and grossly offensive and irresponsible rhetoric imaginable.

He is an abomination.

He was unbeleivably funny on Saturday Night Live about 30 years ago. Career Highlight for gosh sakes.
