The Decline and Fall

Mark Steyn has published an excellent piece in the New Criterion, detailing how moonbattery and low birth rates have combined to make Western Civilization — or at least large parts of it — vulnerable to actual eradication by Islam within the near future. A highlight:

Radical Islam is an opportunist infection, like AIDS: it's not the HIV that kills you, it's the pneumonia you get when your body's too weak to fight it off. When the jihadists engage with the U.S. military, they lose — as they did in Afghanistan and Iraq. If this were like World War I with those fellows in one trench and us in ours facing them over some boggy piece of terrain, it would be over very quickly. Which the smarter Islamists have figured out. They know they can never win on the battlefield, but they figure there's an excellent chance they can drag things out until western civilization collapses in on itself and Islam inherits by default.

As Steyn details, this collapse is already well underway in Europe. Terrorism is not the worst threat facing us from the Islamic world — displacement is. The West needs to decide immediately that it believes in itself enough to want to survive. Otherwise it won't.

Update:

The New Criterion has been having problems with their website, so Steyn's highly recommended article may not be accessible from the link above. It can also be found here (hat tip: Byron).

It would be nice if anyone's mind is changed by this Steyn article, but my guess is that it'll be equated with eugenics and race-based breeding policies advocated by neo-Nazis, and it'll be ignored if not openly reviled. That's the current tactic used by leftists to ostracize anyone who speaks out in favor of Western civilization, especially if they mention birthrates.

Well, the birth rates in my particular branch of Christianity are quite healthy, thank you. Perhaps, in a century, when St. Peter's Basilica becomes a mosque, the new center of World Christianity will be Salt Lake City.

VK, I for one, dread that day. But if it comes, and I survive the "Battle for the Vatican" I would gladly return to SLC.

Uh, I believe we Catholics are breeding as well as we are converting others. Even taking out the Catholic immigrants coming into the U.S., the Catholic birthrate is hovering just above the replacement level.

If St. Peters is ever turned into a mosque then the Bible is fallible.

"And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it."
