Dems Flop at Show Trial, Backers' Spin Makes Matters Worse
The wolves must have been salivating at the idea of a conservative jurist placed in a pillory, where the unsavory likes of Ted Kennedy, Chuck Schumer, Patrick Leahy, and Joe Biden could tear into him in front of the whole world. But as with John Roberts, the Samuel Alito hearings didn't work out as intended.
By now it is obvious to anyone who has been paying attention that Alito is supremely qualified for the Supreme Court and much more mainstream in his views than any of the leftist Senators who grilled him. Kennedy's cartoonish attempt to portray him as a witch, I mean a racist, only succeeded in reducing Alito's wife to tears and portraying Pumpkin Head Ted himself as a shameless and contemptible thug. Too bad they couldn't have held these proceedings right before an election.
Michelle Malkin has a good Alito roundup, which includes some of the responses on the Left. One Daily Kos Kool-Aid–drinker predictably accused Martha Alito of staging her tears. Another had this lovely advice for Mrs. Alito: "She should go fuck herself."

Another particularly despicable take on Martha Alito's breakdown was the attempt by Jennifer Brooks of Delaware's News Journal to spin it as the fault of Republican Lindsey Graham. After gently chiding Biden for his relentless bloviating and clownish hypocrisy, she threw this curveball:
Even so, Biden still walked away from Wednesday's hearing with better press than than [sic] his colleague, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who made Alito's wife cry.
As V the K pointed out in a comment on this site, Graham was comforting the Alitos and apologizing for the appalling behavior of the Democratic Inquisitors when she burst into tears. To say he "made her cry" may be technically correct, but that doesn't stop it from being a lie.

Congratulations to Judge Alito, who is on his way to the Supreme Court just as surely as the Democratic Party and its supporters in the media are on their way to well-deserved oblivion.

With regards to Alito's wife, the last time we saw such an outpouring of graciousness and sympathy from the KosKidz was when Laura Ingraham had breast cancer.
