The Strategy Is Working

Despite suggestions to the contrary by carping Dhimmicrats, the Bush Administration actually does have a strategy to win the war in Iraq — and it's working.

An important aspect of the overall strategy is the "clear, hold, build" approach, which entails clearing an area of terrorists, then building it up with reconstruction projects before handing it over to Iraqi security forces. The residents see the contrast between squalor and terror under the "insurgents," and wealth and freedom under democracy. Few people who lack a journalism degree have a hard time choosing between the two.

Here's how the Telegraph describes the state of affairs in Tal Afar, which was a terrorist stronghold until recently:

[T]he approach of an American military convoy brings people out to wave and even clap, something not seen since the invasion of spring 2003 that toppled Saddam Hussein.

The next step beyond "clear, hold, build" is the "ink spot" method — the spreading of one area of control to another. But there's a problem with spreading the Tal Afar success story throughout Iraq:

The strategy will require more troops, which is politically unacceptable right now in America, given growing public doubts about the war.

In other words, before we can win the hearts and minds of Iraqis, we have to win the hearts and minds of Americans — not an easy task when the Democratic leadership and the MSM are pulling out all the stops to undermine support for the war. Their own strategy is clear — to make a self-fulfilling prophesy out of claims like the one by Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean that the "idea that we're going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong."

In the words of Colonel Col H.R. McMaster, commander of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment based in Tal Afar:

The enemy is really good at disinformation and propaganda. We have to win the battleground of perception.

The accuracy of Col H.R. McMaster's statement is only 100% if, of course, the definition of "ememy" includes our domestic main stream press.

I hate to use a football analogy here, but the best way to keep the Dem's offense off the field is to maintain pressure on their defense.

Keep going on the offensive, W.

We've got your back!
