Democrats Stampeding Off Cliff?

buffaloes.jpg

According to the Washington Times, there are still Democrats who have not drunk too much Kool-Aid to know that their constant carping about what a fiend the President is for defending us from terrorists is likely to blow up in their faces.

Says Michael O'Hanlon, a national security analyst at the left-leaning Brookings Institution:

I think when you suggest that civil liberties are just as much at risk today as the country is from terrorism, you've gone too far if you leave that impression. I don't believe that's true.

Neither do most normal Americans, despite the best efforts of the media. The Dems are already known to be weak on national security. With the rise of characters like Kerry, Murtha, Dean, etc. they have gone beyond weak, to the point that people can't help but wonder whose side they are on. Harry Reid's triumphant proclamation at a Democratic rally that "We killed the Patriot Act" will not be forgotten when the next terror attack hits our country — a day that will come all the sooner thanks to Reid's efforts, as many voters are aware.

If Democratic leaders were actually in the pay of al Qaeda, it would be hard to imagine what they would do differently. They are already testing the limits of the public. With each new attempt to undermine the War on Terror, they push the boundaries of what the media can dupe the populace into tolerating. We already have Democratic Senators demanding that the President be impeached for listening in on al Qaeda phone calls. How much farther can they go?

It's reassuring to know that there are still "centrist" Democrats who have qualms about reflexive opposition to preventing another 9/11. But it's doubtful there are many left. As Power Line observes:

One basic question is how many centrist Democrats still exist. My guess is that most of those who could legitimately be termed centrist, especially on foreign policy, have left the Democratic Party, or at least stopped voting for its candidates. The party's leadership team of Howard Dean, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi must be the most extreme in modern American history. But I've seen no indication that their extremism hurts them with the party's rank and file. So I don't see much prospect that the Democrats' leftward march will be halted; the question, I think, is whether they are marching off a cliff.

Voters will remember this — even if our Democratic representatives don't.

Funny.

Brookings is very centrist, lots of folks from both sides of the fence.

I know O'Hanlon. Quite the conservative.

There really is no difference in how they behave than if they were on Al Qaeda's payroll. It's pretty sad. Al Qaeda's getting a great deal out of our "loyal" Democrats. They're getting for free what they would most likely be willing to pay for. Hey, maybe someone should tell Howard Dean, it sounds like a good fundraising idea. It can't be any worse than the Chinese.

They MUST be Democracts; that buffalo sure has a tiny little schlong.

If I were al Qaeda's paymaster, I'd pay someone to pull his forces away from Tora Bora right before Osama was captured.

Pay someone to invade -- say Iraq -- to use the war to drain off US resources and serve as a recruiting tool for al Qaeda.

Then I'd pay someone to spy on his own people -- to undermine freedoms and chill debate in the US.

That sounds like a winning strategy for al Qaeda. Don't see a lot of Democrats going along with it though.

Dear "Ronald Reagan" is your use of that great name a joke? The real RR had a vision, just as President Bush does.

Reagan's vision of a world free from the threat of Soviet domination succeeded, DESPITE the blind opposition of leftists. Something tells me you were probably one of them.

They called Reagan a warmonger and a dunce; claimed he would start a nuclear war that would destroy the planet.

Now you are replaying the same failed rhetoric once again and you think that we are all as stupid and gullible as you people?

Seems you folks need some new material, as we've heard all your shopworn shibboleths time and again and you have been WRONG every single time.

Why don't you just change your commenting name to what it really is "Stalin's Useful Idiot." Of course you could always update it to "Osama's Bitch."
