Where Are They Now? — Ray Nagin
New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin's 15 minutes are up — but that doesn't mean he's done making a fool of himself to the press. While others struggle to rebuild his city, Nagin has been vacationing in Jamaica, at the private villa of Sandals chairman Gordon "Butch" Stewart, who may be interested in building casinos in New Orleans. Nagin took a break from lounging on the beach to tell the Jamaica Observer that the chaos that resulted from a lack of competent people in positions of authority when Katrina hit Louisiana was the fault of "a combination of racial issues and a combination of class."
Lamented Nagin:
I have had the chance to think about this a lot, and I'm still shocked that this happened in America, a country with so many resources, where we can send battle ships around the world in 24 hours and yet you saw what happened in New Orleans.
Did you hear that al-Qaeda? We can send battleships around the world in 24 hours. So just because we let a nitwit run a major city is no reason to think you should mess with us.
Nagin then proceeded to lecture Jamaica on how best to prepare for a hurricane. There was no mention of whether he will be joining Michael Brown's disaster-preparedness consulting firm.
