Americans Are Brighter Than Some Thought

The Democratic Party's foreign policy strategy seems pretty clear. They are doing everything in their power to undermine our performance in a war they themselves helped initiate in hopes they can cause a humiliating and catastrophic defeat that can be hung around Republicans' necks, thus ensuring changed fortunes for Democrats at the ballot box.

The mystery is what makes them think they can get away with it. Yes, they can count on the MSM to spin everything in their direction. But it wasn't long ago that many Democrats put themselves on record as supporting intervention in Iraq. Did they think we wouldn't remember this? Or worse, did they think we would buy into their lame "Bush tricked us" canard?

In either event, it appears they aren't called the "liberal elite" for nothing — they really must think that normal Americans are stupid. Fortunately, they're wrong, as evidenced by a recent bipartisan poll, which indicates that a majority understands that Democratic carping is hurting the morale of our troops, and that the motive behind the Dems' ankle-biting is not to help us win, but to "gain a partisan political advantage."

Only 16% support the Jack Murtha/Cindy Sheehan "bring the troops home now" stance. Of course, Murtha himself has been forced to renounce this absurd position.

Here's a poll question they ought to ask: should we keep up with the in-fighting and navel-gazing over whether the correct decisions were made years in the past, or should we focus on defeating al-Qaeda?

The Democrats would rather see America lose a war than Republicans win an election.

What I don't understand was the Democrats assertion that forcing the vote on whether we should leave now was "changing the meaning of Murtha's withdrawal proposal". Maybe I'm just a dumb hick, but what's the difference? Murtha's call was a six month withdrawal "as soon as practicably possible". "Practicably possible" is open to interpretation. The republicans forced an immediate withdrawal which, would probably take at least six months.

Am I missing something?

I think we should avoid al Qaeda and stay in Iraq. Afterall, our clueless leader W "cut and ran" from Tora Bora when he could have dealt them the death knell.

His move into Iraq based on questionable and faulty intelligence has proved so wonderful for our conservative cause.

Afterall, al Qaeda is only a tiny faction in Iraq. The Pentagon says we have much bigger fish to fry than terrorists, like all those insurgents we're fighting. They make better enemies than al Qaeda.
