Where Sympathy Wears Thin
From The Washington Post:
Kenny Lason, 45, a dishwasher at Pat O'Brien's, a French Quarter restaurant famous for its signature "Hurricane" cocktail, took a long slurp out of a bottle of Korbel extra-dry champagne. He broke a store window to get it, and he is not ashamed. "They wasn't giving us nothing," he said. "You got to live off the land."
There are more than a few Big Easy denizens that can be thankful this isn't Galveston in 1900. After that hurricane, which managed to kill over 6,000 without the assistance of alleged global warming, looters "were summarily executed by the militia — stood against the nearest wall or pile of debris and shot without the hindrance of a trial" (thank you Wiggins for the link).

The same was true in San Fransisco in 1906... looters were shot.

Talk about DESPERATE... The guy broke a window for a bottle of KORBEL? Yikes... I'd break a window for Dom Perignon... but not Korbel.

Point well made, Mike. Indeed, we wouldn't pay for Dom now, would we... after all, it's FRENCH.
Ahhh, for the good old days, though. I wonder if the news media will cooperate and share footage with authorities who aim to right at least some of the atrocious wrongs. I bet with a little pressure, most of the dirt-bags who'd be caught would spill the beans on others, to try and save their own (worthless) necks.

"I survived a hurricane and all I got was a trunk full of cheap beer!"
or
"Thanks to the local Wal-Mart for this contribution."

Hm. Notice there's no license plate on the car?

They could turn the info on other looters into the authorities? You must mean the same authorities that fled their posts and ran from their jobs.

I'm guessing the lack of plates means the car was stolen from a dealership.
