The Sincerest Form of Flattery
It's encouraging to see that Gerhard Schroeder — who once again ran a campaign that relied heavily upon pandering to the baser emotions of Germans who resent America — must not hate the USA as much as you might think. Apparently he thinks enough of us to follow our model for how a liberal loses elections — the one pioneered by Al Gore and further developed by John Edwards. Rather than gracefully slinking back into whatever hole he crawled out of, here's how Schroeder responded to losing to Angela Merkel:
"I feel myself confirmed in ensuring on behalf of our country that there is in the next four years a stable government under my leadership," he said to cheering supporters at party headquarters, flashing the thumbs-up signal and holding his arms aloft like a victorious prizefighter.
Due to Merkel's narrow margin of victory, it's conceivable that her party might have to form a coalition with Schroeder's. When asked if he would be the chancellor in such a coalition, Schroeder's response was, "How else would it work?"
Never mind that Merkel got more votes.

John Edwards wasn't the presidential candidate in 2004 - it was Jean-Pierre Kerry.

But Edwards was the one who didn't want to concede defeat.

Edwards still hasn't conceded, he's been making the rounds slagging Bush this week. It must kill Edwards to have lost to Bush, especially since he considers himself so smart, and Bush just a corn-cob dumby from Texas.

You are insulting a fine German-American with that collage: the man who played Col Klink. Gerhard Schroeder and his inflated ego are not fit to spit-shine Klink's boots. ^_^;
As for Schroeder himself, yep he has taken the AlGore route: while being buried in the ash-heap of history to claim victory. Sore loser and sauerkraut he is.
