The Old Gray Hag Spits at Texas

The New York Times has done a lot of stupid things lately, but this takes the cake. They have taken a tiger by the tail. They have messed with Texas — though being the Times, they did it in a slippery, underhanded way.

Here's what the Gray Lady has to say about Houston, which is now home to the largest relief shelter in American history:

No one would accuse this city of being timid in the scramble to profit from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

How would they dare say something not only so insulting but so outrageously inaccurate to a country full of people who are perfectly aware of the sacrifices Houston has readily made on behalf of refugees from Katrina?

They wouldn't. The quote above was from The International Herald Tribune, which is basically an international version of the New York Times. It is published in Paris, where it may find a receptive audience for its snide and bigoted calumnies. The domestic version of the story tones down the Texas-bashing, although the Times did see fit to compare a Houston real estate company to ambulance chasers in both versions.

The idea is that by feeding and sheltering thousands of desperate refugees, Houston is somehow exploiting them in order to stimulate their economy. This sort of nonsense is par for the course for the bitter loony-left ideologues at the Times. The real estate company has been exploiting the poor victims by offering them special financing rates. Now do you understand why capitalism must be smashed?

"This article did not help our image across the world," said Massey Villareal of the Great Houston Partnership.

It wasn't intended to.
