RIP Simon Wiesenthal

Posted by Dave Blount at September 21, 2005 8:17 PM

Yesterday the Simon Wiesenthal Center announced the death of its namesake. After surviving the Nazi death camps, Wiesenthal devoted his life to hunting down the perpetrators of the massive crime known as the Holocaust. He is credited with helping to bring over 1,100 war criminals to justice.

Wiesenthal was liberated from the Mauthausen concentration camp, where inmates sewed this flag in secrecy during the final days of World War II:

The inmates didn't know that the flag should have had 48 stars, not 56.

But they knew what the flag means.

Thank you Wiggins for information and the picture.
