« New Orleans Mayor Goes Insane | Main | European Leftists Gloat Over Katrina Dead »

Look Out, Mr. President!

Evidently New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin is not the only Louisiana Democrat to come unhinged in the aftermath of Katrina. On a tip from Wiggins, I learned that Senator Mary Landrieu threatened to punch President Bush on ABC's "This Week".

Landrieu burst into tears in the course of her performance, in which she let loose with the standard Democratic talking points regarding the President's responsibility for Louisiana's lack of preparedness for a major hurricane. NewsMax points out that one of the state officials taking heat for bungling evacuation and rescue efforts is Senator Landrieu's brother, Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu.

Of course if Senator Landrieu appropriated funding to building more secure levees the flooding may have never happened. This is the classic deflect of blame by politicians and we're seeing in large scope in Louisiana.

No where in the U.S. Constitution does it say the federal government has to pay for infrastructre in states. In fact, it was set up for the other way around. The only reason why the federal government started to help fund the infrastructure is because of the ports in the area being main trade ports.

Shivering in his boots is Bush, I'm sure of it. Well, haven't you ever seen Landrieu in her Third-degree Shodokan outfit?

ROTFLMAO

My wife always says that when bad things happen, watch out to see who screams and points fingers first and who does it the hardest... that'll usually be one of your culprits. So far we have a mayor, a governor, and now a Senator!

It really is bizarre. Scary really how some think they are informed by copying and pasting quotes but simply aren't informed. She's a beaut alright.

The attack on the Bush administration by Louisiana elected public officials even before the victims were rescued from the much goes much deeper than many realize.

Louisiana Politicians, Democrats in particular, have much to worry about. Both the Governor and Senator Landrieu won their elections by narrow margins, ONLY by winning a huge margin in heavily Democratic New Orleans. Much of the rest of the state went Republican. The New Orleans Mayor was of course crucial to both of them, in organizing the Democratic machine for those elections. Is it suprising that they would be lock step in pushing blame off on Bush.

In a twist of some intriguing fate, both The Governor and Senator are up for election in 2008, a presidential election year. Where will the voters of New Orleans be in 2008, out of touch, and probably in Texas. How do you run a campaign like that, and how does that shift affect the mix, where Republicans continue to gain strength?

Remember Landrieu ran on Republican Issues to win her run off in 2002.

One important thing to remember. When a politician blames some one else for a political crisis, aren't they actually trying to say -- It wasn't my fault? I did my job perfectly? The press has yet to seek admissions from the Governor and Mayor that they might have made mistakes. (wasn't that a full fledged media campaign against GW several years ago?)

The blame game has national implications, and usually the politicians seeking to point at other people, are usually ones with the most culpability.

Yes, just like Bush blaming local governments for all the problems. Et tu, Mr. Conservative, your game is out in the open for all to see.

Posted by: Rob B. at September 5, 2005 10:18 PM

Sorry Rob, your BS is exposed. Chad is right. The fed doesn't have the constitutional authority to do anything anyway. This is a problem that rightly belongs to the people of Louisiana, and any Americans who wish to lend a helping hand.

Quite frankly, I'm glad the conservative game is out there for all to see. Real Americans understand the implications and the dangers of the federal government operating outside its constitutional authority. Just take a look at Socialist Security. Perfect example.

My question for you is this: Why do liberals so consistently kick and scream when consercatives insist the rules (read that: the law) be followed?

Whenever I see anything on Louisiana in the news,
I have to remind myself that David Duke almost became Governor of that state. He didn't win of course, but he did get over 500,000 votes.

In the words of the immortal Stan Lee: "'Nuff said!"

Because the right only wants to follow "the rules" when it is convenient for them. The left is guilty of the same blaming and denial.

What is more important right now; who's fault it is, or focusing on helping the people right now? There will be plenty of money wasting hearings coming soon enough for the blame game.

Posted by: Rob B. at September 6, 2005 7:42 AM

The bad thing about Landrieu is this. On Sunday, the day before Katrina was scheduled to make landfall she was on Fox News talking about how Louisiana has given so much tax revenue to the Federal government and how not enough has come back to help the state.

You heard me right, the day before Katrina hit she was already trying to deflect the blame elsewhere.

What do you expect from people who are elected by a constituency that has been indoctrinated its whole life to believe thet they're victims and the purpose of the universe is to solve their problems for them? All these people know how to do is blame others and these are their representatives.

"Sorry Rob, your BS is exposed. Chad is right. The fed doesn't have the constitutional authority to do anything anyway. This is a problem that rightly belongs to the people of Louisiana, and any Americans who wish to lend a helping hand."

That sure wasn't the tune W was singing last year before the election, when he was right on top of those hurricanes that rolled across the swing state of Florida!

And the money was fast in coming. Almost as fast as the federal money he threw their way.

Posted by: Denny Hix at September 6, 2005 3:26 PM

Denny: Bush declared LA a disaster zone 2 days prior to Katrina hitting, and has freed funds as fast as they've been needed. Money is not the problem. To say that more funds were available in Florida and faster is laughable... even from Canada, this notion has the smell of Guano on it. The fact that will and is already coming out, is that jurisdictional issues and constitutional issues will lay most of the blame at the feet of state officials because they are made responsible by the rules of the game. It's like trying to blame an outfielder for bad pitching... or a linebacker for no touchdowns by his team.

Let the Bats crap Guano all they want, for now people should concentrate on disaster relief; there'll be lots of time to follow the political and logistics and protocol and constitutional trail later on.
