Katrina Relief

It's time to take a break from the moonbattery to remind readers that not all of Katrina's victims are looting and shooting at the people sent to help them. The Truth Laid Bear and Instapundit are stimulating donations by encouraging bloggers to recommend a charity. They want readers to record donations here so they can keep track of how much good we're managing to do. Recording the donation is of course much less important than sending one. I'm recommending The Salvation Army.

Technorati can help you find more information on and .

Randi Rhodes: Bush Is Happy Because The Hurricane Victims Are Democrats

“This President is never gonna do the right thing. I think somewhere deep down inside him he takes a lot of joy about losing people, if he thinks they vote Democrat or if he thinks they’re poor, or if he thinks they’re in a blue state, whatever his reasons are not to rescue those people who are (planning?) for their safety.”

Popular Lefty Blogger: Screw the Hurricane Victims, They're Republicans

So why was I thinking of starting a movement against giving aid to the stricken areas?

Because these are red states. They voted for Bush. These ninnies obviously wanted these policies, and they deserve to live with the consequences of their votes.

Hurricane victims are Democrats? New Orleans, sure...but what about Mississippi? Or Slidell, LA? Or the Mobile Bay area?

You'd think that if Bush is gonna conspire with God to smite the country with a hurricane, he would've aimed AWAY from his constituency (LA, MS, AL) and TOWARDS his opponents (Mass., RI, CT, NJ)?

Damn...not only did Bush f-up the war, he f-upped a perfectly good hurricane, too!

For those of you in blue states, the above was sarcasm.

Robert Hayes, Editor of Blogger News Network, sent around an email to BNN contributors with this suggestion:

At the end of September, there will still be a great need for donations and support, but "donor fatigue" will very likely have set in. I don't mean to take away from donating right now - we all should. But I'd like to generate a pulse of giving that will hit next month, in addition to the donations right now.

I think he's right... expecially for donations to organizations like the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities, which specialize in resources to help victims longterm as well as urgently. I'm sure that Hayes will update this idea at BNN shortly. Look in the right-hand column.
