Katrina Isn't Bringing Out the Best in Moonbats
Tragedies bring out the best in some. Unfortunately, they bring out the worst in others. Maybe they just help to reveal our true nature.
At this point it isn't surprising that the Left would try to blame the hurricane on Bush. But Randi Rhodes of the liberal soapbox Air America takes it a step further. She wants her listeners to believe that the suffering caused by Katrina makes the President glad. Here's a snippet of her ravings:
This President is never gonna do the right thing. I think somewhere deep down inside him he takes a lot of joy about losing people, if he thinks they vote Democrat or if he thinks they’re poor, or if he thinks they’re in a blue state, whatever his reasons are not to rescue those people who are (planning?) for their safety.
Bareknuckle Politics offers an audio link, in case you're masochistic enough to want to listen for yourself (hat tip: TMH's Bacon Bits).
Over at the profoundly vile The Brad Blog, they are at least aware that the states involved are red, not blue. Consequently, their sympathy for the victims is less than overwhelming:
My original reaction to the Katrina catastrophe was going to be: "NOT ONE DIME." For an hour or so, I contemplated the idea of turning it into a crusade: No-one in the blue states (where the money is) should give one dime of aid to the victims of this hurricane, which devastated Bush-friendly regions. Why did I flirt with such a callous attitude? Because it should be obvious to all that this tragedy was not just an act of God. Dubya and his diety [sic] conspired to transform mere disaster into an unprecedented mega-catastrophe. ... Because these are red states. They voted for Bush. These ninnies obviously wanted these policies, and they deserve to live with the consequences of their votes. A large part of me still believes that many of these W-worshipping numbskulls deserve to suffer and to die. They brought it on themselves. Let them look to Jayzuss for aid: It's time they stopped leeching off the more productive blue staters.
But then it dawned on this sick little toad that New Orleans is almost entirely populated by Democrats, and he had a change of heart:
New Orleans, we should note, went heavily for Kerry. And that's why we must help. Although it was very tempting to say otherwise.
Maybe people should be questioned before being given water or shelter. "Did you vote for the President? Yes? Sorry, the enlightened folks at Brad's Blog want you to suffer and die."
This sociopathic point of view is not a novelty on the Left. Michael Moore reacted to 9/11 by screeching that the victims did not deserve to die because the tragedies occurred in areas that vote Democratic. As obviously depraved as Moore is, his views do not fall far outside the Democratic mainstream. Remember, this is the guy who a couple of years later was prominently featured at the Democratic Convention.
It's no wonder some Red Staters are starting to get the idea that liberals don't always have their best interests at heart.
With thanks to V the K and Celiberal.

Speaking of Michael Moore,
he Says Bush Wants the Victims to Die Because They're Black
No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this!
Didn't Lumpy Riefenstahl get the memo? The Nazi Racists are his people, now.

The libs never cease to amaze me with their illogical emotions, always saying the wrong thing at the worst time possible.

Katrina is a national tragedy. The conduct of Dems like in the post above and the inflamming of racial hatred by the race pimps is a national disgrace!

It is this kind of rhetoric that gave Bush his 2004 win...hopefully they will keep it up, makes the 2006 midterms look good for the Republicans. The country may not be all that happy with everything the Bush administration has done but it certainly doesn't want these loonies running the show.

I respect your views, but I think you're wrong on this one. If you look at the timeline you'll see that the federal response was slow compared to the response to Florida in 2004.

If that's true, maybe it's because Florida's government was much more competent than Louisiana and New Orleans. The system is set up such that the states and localities affected are responsible for calling in and directing federal assistance. As we saw last week, the governor of Louisiana is a dingbat and the mayor of New Orleans was in way over her head. Since both Louisiana and New Orleans are legendary for incompetence, patronage, and corruption, it's really no surprise that their governments dawdled rather than request and direct Federal aid. They didn't even begin mandatory evacuation until Bush pleaded with them to do so.
