German Elections
Let's keep our fingers crossed that things go poorly today for Gerhard Schroeder in Germany's elections. Opponent Angela Merkel may be a little lacking in charisma, but she is a good bet to put the breaks both on Germany's headlong economic decline, and on its government's shameless pandering to the anti-American bigotry that has been so fashionable in Europe since not long after 9/11.
Schroeder continues to play the hate-America card to the bitter end. His campaign has put up posters featuring flag-draped American coffins that one Western diplomat, quoted in the Washington Times, described as "absolutely tasteless and outrageous" (link via Wiggins).

Update:
To give you an idea of what civilization is up against in the German elections:

Van, sorry for the multiple trackbacks. Haloscan told me it didn't go through ("Malformed response, invalid URL)...yet it clearly did!
