Border Moonbattery Soon to Decline?
When it comes to the fundamental duty of our government to defend our borders from invasion, there has been plenty of moonbattery on both sides of the aisle. But if James Pinkerton is right, it might be due to let up.
For their own political reasons, neither Republicans nor Democrats have had any interest in protecting us from an invasion across our southern border. Democrats of course will welcome anyone who isn't Caucasian into the country, in hopes of promoting the ruinous balkanization of America, which they have been able to exploit for votes. For their part, Republicans have betrayed Lincoln's "one nation" legacy in favor of cheap labor and politically correct pandering.
Obviously, there have been downsides to the "open border" approach. One is that, as Pinkerton observes, "homeland security is a joke if the government can't figure who people are and how they got here." Another is a crippling drain on our social resources. A third is an increase in violent crime, particularly crime by vicious gangs like MS-13. A fourth is the illegal drugs pouring over the border. I could go on.
Pinkerton certainly speaks for me when he announces that the American middle class has finally had enough:
Enough of illegal immigration, enough of multiculturalism, enough of carelessness about homeland security. The Silent Majority will no longer allow an arrogant elite to speak for it on fundamental issues of national and cultural destiny. The Lincoln vision — a house not divided against itself — looks pretty good right now.
He's not the first to notice this growing swell of opinion. Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado, probably the government's most outspoken advocate of controlling our borders, recently finished second in a 2008-preference straw poll by Michigan Republicans. Southwestern Democratic Governors Janet Napolitano and Bill Richardson appear to realize that the border issue cannot be ignored.
Pinkerton calls immigration the sleeper issue of the 2008. There's been enough sleeping when it comes to border security. By 2008, our representatives are going to have to wake up — or suffer the consequences on election day.
Thanks to Byron for the tip.

Bring on the ACLU!
I'll put the Minuteman project up against those losers any day.
I do object to the Lincoln quotes, though. These were taken WAY out of context. You make it sound like it was David Duke who uttered these words, given the context in which they were placed.

I can't imagine anyone less like Lincoln than David Duke. "One nation" means we're all Americans and shouldn't be balkanized by race or region. Leaving our borders open to regional conquest through immigration jeopardizes that concept.
