Gay-Haters Against America

You have to hand it to the nuts who have been going out of their way to undermine the morale of our troops — they are a broad-based coalition. Of course the usual suspects are represented: fifth-column journalists, Hollywood's limousine leftists, hygienically challenged anarchists, irresponsible demagogues in the Government itself, etc. But V the K of Caption This! passed along a tip on an act in this circus that you might not have expected: a Baptist church in Topeka, Kansas.

Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church and his traveling freak show have been crashing memorial services of heroes killed in Iraq to draw attention to their message that "God hates fags" and therefore hates America for permitting homosexuality. Slated for recent stops on his tour have been Marblehead, MA and Plattsburgh, NY.

At the Marblehead memorial services for a fallen Green Beret, Army Staff Sgt. Christopher N. Piper, Phelps' clowns held signs with messages like "Thank God for dead soldiers" and "God blew up the troops." Possibly inspired by the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, they sang their own rendition of "God Bless America," beginning "God hates America, land of our fags."

According to a website owned by Phelps with the patriotic name "God Hates America," President Bush is a "bloody butcher," 9/11 was God's punishment, and soldiers who die defending democracy in Iraq are going to hell, where they will join Pope John Paul II and Ronald Reagan.

Lest anyone take these psychopaths for a legitimate Baptist church, Wikipedia points out that the so-called church is actually more of a cult, located in the basement of Phelps' home and denounced by both mainstream and fundamentalist Christians.

Phelps' "church" helpfully reinforces a point that has been made here before: you can judge both groups and individuals by their degree of antipathy toward the United States. There is something about this country that really turns vile people off.

This is absolutely unbelievable.
I suppose it takes all kinds of moonbats.

"There is something about this country that really turns vile people off."
I think it is the freedom of speech really.
In france they would immediately make it illegal (hide it from public view).

Man I love how you point this stuff out. The WORLD should know about this stuff. But...the "WORLD" is on the side of these nutcases, because it's primarily socialist/communist. Do we have the hope to survive? God, I hope so.

That "baptist" group sure is making a bad name for Christians everywhere, but that's probably the intent.

That "baptist" group sure is making a bad name for Christians everywhere, but that's probably the intent.

Actually, nearly every real Christian group has repudiated them, and Fred Phelps 'church' is actually in the basement of somebody's house.

See, Christians actually repudiate those whose views are vile and disgusting. Compare and contrast with the left's attitude vis-a-vis, for example, enviro-terrorism. ("We don't endorse violence, but we don't condemn it either."

I have known about his "God hates fags" website for a couple of years, but I had avoided it. I finally found it and its sister website "God Hates America" and it is more infuriating than Indymedia or Democratic Underground, because they are doing it in the name of God.

It is sickening. And it gives the Anti-Christian Moonbats ammunition.

I'm no big fan of "hate speech" laws... but this might be the best example of where we should prosecute people for such garbage.
