Antiwar Lieutenant Governor Crashes Marine Funeral

Adding further proof that there is no shortage of demented moonbats holding high office, Pennsylvania's Lieutenant Governor Catherine Baker Knoll crashed the funeral of Marine Staff Sgt. and former police officer Joseph Goodrich, who was killed in Iraq.

During the distribution of communion, the uninvited guest took the opportunity to hand out her business card and demand the identities of mourners in an apparent attempt to campaign.

"I want you to know our government is against this war," Knoll announced to Goodrich's outraged relatives, presumably referring to the state government of the Ed Rendell Administration.

"Here you have a soldier who was killed — dying for his country — in a church full of grieving family members and she shows up uninvited," observed Goodrich's sister-in-law, Rhonda Goodrich. "It made a mockery of Joey's death."

Although quite a few Marines and police officers were on hand, no security arrangements had been thought necessary to keep out disrespectful riffraff.

Thanks to V the K for the tip.

Lt. Governor Knoll displays the grimace of a ghoul.

As a follow-up, the lefties at Kos and DUMB have not yet given The Funeral Crasher the usual "People's Hero" accolades.

Could this be it? Have we at last found a shark the left will not jump?

I wish I had your optimism, VK. They wasted no time jumping the shark with the "blame Bush and Blair" drivel after 7/7.

OK, there's one flag I wouldn't mind setting on fire...

I heard her appology yesterday on the news. It was a sidestep at best. Even the shameless "Fast Eddy" Rendell distanced himself from her.

A despicable moonbat if there ever was one.

Rendell's comments in damage control were precious: "It's not the business of state government to support the war." Hmmm, in that case he should ponder the prospect of military base closings around Pennsylvania.

Rendell is up for re-election in 2006.

The apology Rendell offered was a take on the "sorry if you were offended" not "sorry it happened" that Senator Dick Durbin offered after his inflammatory Gitmo remarks.

The follow-up to this story was also interesting. The final FIVE paragraphs discuss the political motives of the family member who complained. Only one mention of the political affiliation of Knoll (none in the original).

I blogged it here:

I got a rather weak response from the staff writer at the Pittsburgh Post Gazette when I brought that to their attention.
