The Superior Wisdom of the Intellectual Elite

I'm not interested in 9/11 . . . it's too small, history overwhelms it. The history of the world is like: He kills me, I kill him, only with different cosmetics and different castings. So in 2001, some fanatics killed some Americans, and now some Americans are killing some Iraqis. And in my childhood, some Nazis killed Jews. And now, some Jewish people and some Palestinians are killing each other. Political questions, if you go back thousands of years, are ephemeral, not important. History is the same thing over and over again.

If a plumber said something this shallow, foolish and insanely simplistic, any reasonable person would assume he was mentally retarded. But these aren't the gibberings of a mental defective. They are nuggets of wisdom, cast down from on high by the quintessential New York intellectual, the very embodiment of smirking aren't-I-cute cultural elitism. They are the words of Woody Allen to the German magazine Der Spiegel, as quoted in the New York Post.

I'm glad Allen set me straight. I had thought 9/11 was kind of a big deal. Now I know the 3,000 lives lost can be dismissed with a shrug. No wonder liberals don't think the War on Terror is worth fighting.

Another mistake I made: I thought there was a moral difference between terrorists deliberately killing civilians to sow chaos, and soldiers killing terrorists to defend democracy. I also thought there was a difference between Nazi gassing Jews, and Jews attempting to defend their country.

How unsophisticated of me. As if there really were a distinction between good and evil, right and wrong. There is only chic and unchic. The rest is for the peasants to worry about.

Seen in light of Allen's words of wisdom, the whole philosophy of the liberal elite — the people with almost total control of the mainstream media, as well as academia — begins to make sense. Once you get your head around the idea that they think it's gauche to distinguish between good and evil, the rest of their views have a depraved kind of logic.

I wish I could say these people were idiots. Then I would be able to think better of them.

Thanks to V the K of Caption This! for the tip.

Common law step-daughter, wife, what's the difference?

Is it any wonder that he views himself as a "European" filmmaker these days?

Good post! The guy gives me the creeps in a major way! Disgusting.

I'm sure Woody just intellectualizes his relationship in its historical context. "So, I boink my stepdaughter. And in my childhood, my dad boinked my mom. And now, Brad Pitt is boinking Angelina Jolie... Sex is the same thing over and over again."

Posted by: V the K at June 29, 2005 11:07 AM

Why do conservatives have to take people out of context to make a point. He's talking about 9/11 as a freakin' theme for a movie. Allen has never done a historical film.

And as for liberals and the War on Terror. Liberals support that fight as much as conservatives. Liberals, independents, and moderates are simply getting fed up with the OTHER war...the one in Iraq. We'd like to free up our troops there so they can bring back Osama "dead or alive" like our clueless leader promised nearly four years ago.

Posted by: Randy Case at June 29, 2005 1:16 PM

Randy, who did you think we were fighting in Iraq, Redcoats? BTW, Allen's remarks are not dependent on context.

Posted by: Van Helsing at June 29, 2005 1:41 PM

(Sirens screaming....) Moonbat alert! Moonbat alert!

Hey, Randy! The war in Iraq is part and parcel of the overall war on terrorism. Sorry you missed that. Geez, no wonder Americans don't trust you guys when it comes to matters of national defense!

By your "bring home the troops" statement, you have basically proven Van Helsing's point that liberals don't want to fight the War on Terror. Heck, if firefighters are ever dispatched to your house when it's ablaze, I'll be screaming "No! Don't put them in harm's way! Bring them home now!"

Also, try not to feed us the "liberals support the fight as much as" anyone crap. No, you don't. But don't take my word for it. A cursory glance at quotes from Barbara Lee, Teddy "Scuba Boy" Kennedy, Harry Reid, Nancy "you ignorant slut" Pelosi, Babs Boxer, etc., etc., etc., will say more than I ever could.

Randy. So Woody Allen, who while married started to shack up with his adopted daughter, is going to make a historical film about Sept 11, 2001? Will this movie be as 'accurate' as Farenhype 911 by Moore?
So liberals support the war on terror? Lets see there is Sen. Durbin calling American troops Nazis. Sen. Kennedy saying the scandal at Abu Ghairb meant Saddam's torture palaces were open for business again. Those peaceful protestors two years ago in California who waived a sign that read 'we support soldiers who kill their officers.' With support like this, who really needs an enemy?

Posted by: Anna at June 29, 2005 1:44 PM

OT: Dick "the Turban" Durbin's Explanation for his apology.

Dick Durbin yesterday on Inside Politics blamed us for why he had to apologize: “Well, I think there were a lot of critics who's tried to blow my remarks up as much as they could, and to run them in some aspects of our press over and over and over again. I think they bear some responsibility, too. That speech might never have been noticed but for that activity on that side of the media.”

Translation: That speech was only meant to for my LLL base. Damn you right-wingers for exposing it to the Common Folk! Damn you all to Hell!

And could Randy be any more wrong? Woody Allen didn't say, "I didn't do a 9-11 film because I don't do historical films." (Love and Death notwithstanding.) He said he didn't do a 9-11 film because it was too "small" to be worthy of his "genius." And then he went on (the critical point Randy omits) to spew the usual leftist moral equivalency: Terrorists = Liberators. Jews = Nazis.

Woody Allen is a typical self-absorbed elitist parasite. In his opinion, since the victims of 9-11 were all "nobodies," why should he care?

Posted by: V the K at June 29, 2005 2:44 PM

I wonder how Mr.Allen would feel if his step-daughter (wife, wtf ever) was killed in the 9-11 attack. I have to seriously doubt that he'd find it too small to be worthy of his emotion, much less his "genius".

OK, you liberidiot lurkers-- let me put this in a way that even you dolts can get under your tin-foil beanies:

The guy is shagging a woman whose diapers he changed. The guy is shagging someone he raised from childhood. How long do you think he was waiting before he could spring his plan- since she was twelve? Ten? Six?

How anyone could not cringe in distase and loathing at the ravings of this pedophilic has-been is beyond me.

"Also, try not to feed us the "liberals support the fight as much as" anyone crap. No, you don't."

Whoa -- so you guys know better than me what I think! Wow!

Look, liberals support the war on terror. Iraq is not part of that war...no matter how much Bush wants to spin it that way. It is a seperate and different war altogether.

As for liberal support for the war on terror, it was Tom Daschle who sponsored the bill to take us to war in Afghanistan, all the bills supporting military action in Afghanistan passed unanimously or nearly unanimously, and all the polls from the months after 9/11 show 4-in-5 liberals supported taking action in Afghanistan.

Get over your self righteousness. Learn to read. Quit taking people out of context. And get a clue.

Posted by: Randy Case at June 30, 2005 2:22 PM

Anyone who seriously thinks that what's going on in Iraq has nothing to do with fighting terrorism is in an extremely poor position to tell other people to get a clue.

Posted by: Van Helsing at June 30, 2005 6:12 PM

Actually, liberal group BowelMovement-dot-org, I mean, Move-On-dot-org opposed the war in Afghanistan, circulated a petition calling for "restraint" and subsequently bragged that they owned the Democrat party.

Furthermore, Scroll Down to the DC "Peace Protests" in November of 2001 and you can clearly see the liberal left strongly opposed the War in Afghanistan.

Democratizing the Middle East is gonna be a tough job, but the only other alternative for crushing global jihad would have been to Dresden the enitre region. Lefties tend to forget that Saddam had been under sanctions for twelve years and showed no intention of leaving. Meanwhile, we had to put up with lefties bitching about how cruel the sanctions were every day, while the French, Germans, and Russians cut under-the=table deals with Saddam's Regime. Meanwhile, the UN was taking (in the words of Carl Sagan) "billy-un$ and billy-un$" in kickbacks from Saddam under the Oil-for-Palaces scheme.

We tried to get rid of Saddam your way for twelve years, and all that happened was to keep the rape rooms, plastic shredders, and the childrens' prisons as busy as could be while Saddam sent $25K checks to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers and let terrorists use Salman Pak to practice terrorizing.

We tried to defeat terror the liberal way. It didn't work. Face it, you can't defeat fanatical murderers with aromatherapy and group hugs.

Randy Case, the newest addition to the moonbat family here, uttered this drivel:

Learn to read. Quit taking people out of context. And get a clue

Because I can read very well, I read your leaders' comments and quotes...which is why I don't take liberals out of context. Your own side's words are quite damning. But don't take my word for it...apparently the entire electorate feels the same way. Also, because I can read, I know the proper way to fill out a ballot here in Florida...a skill the Dems here haven't quite figured out yet. But I need to figure out how to read?

And "get a clue"? Until you guys figure out how to get elected, I don't think I need to "get clues" from the likes of you.

Face it, RC, you guys have a serious image problem, and it's one based on observation by the majority of the country. The only way you guys win elections is by pretending to be something you're not: pro-defense, pro-military, and pro-American interests. When your side hopes for defeats and setbacks in the global war on terror (which does include Iraq, you uneducated boob) in order to score political points, you show your true colors to your countrymen. And those colors, sir, are patently offensive to us.

And now, NBC Anchorpoof Brian Williams echoes Woodsy Allen's moral equivalence by comparing America's Founding Fathers to Mad Mullahs.

Several of the former Iran Hostages have decided there is a strong resemblance between Iran's new president and one of their captors more than 25 years ago. ...

What would it all matter if proven true? Someone brought up today the first several U.S. presidents were certainly revolutionaries and might have been called 'terrorists' by the British crown, after all.

Logical conclusion: Brian Williams wants to boink his step-daughter.
