The Gitmo Ploy

Any aficionados of moonbattery concerned that the Dan's demise would result in a reduction in leftist foolishness on CBS News must be encouraged by the performance of Bob Schieffer, who has been taking advantage of his position to spew some truly unpleasant anti-American rhetoric. With chutzpah that will make you drop your jaw in amazement, Schieffer — on behalf of the entire treasonous and thankfully crumbling edifice that is the MSM — used last Sunday's Face the Nation as a soapbox from which to lecture our military on the concept of honor as he endorsed the demand of the NY Times' cartoonish Tom Friedman that we close down Guantanamo Bay because of all the bad press the media has created for it.

Closing Gitmo would presumably mean setting all the terrorists free. What would be the point of moving them elsewhere? You could house them all at a Club Med resort and the MSM would continue to find or invent information that could be used to inflame the dreaded "Arab street."

Keep in mind that the worst alleged abuses are on a par with activities that occur in the average junior high bathroom on a daily basis, despite the fact that Gitmo inmates are not adolescents but hardened terrorists, most of them captured in battle, probably all of them eager to murder American children in their beds once they can lay their hands on the technology to do it on a massive scale. The worst "abuse" the MSM has been able to come up with is a phony report that someone flushed a Koran down a toilet. Had this event been factual, the most outrageous aspect of it would have been the fact that US taxpayers would have paid for the book.

As many people outside the MSM are aware, it is al Qaeda's official policy to allege abuses when they are detained, in order to give our fifth column ammunition with which to shoot our troops in the back. The entire topic of abuse at Gitmo is pure, undiluted propaganda.

Friedman's evidence of our military's poor conduct at Gitmo boils down to the fact that his MSM colleagues all over the world agree with him on the topic. If he proves anything, it's that the establishment media tends to be anti-American, not just in America, but in other countries too.

Starting with World War II, America has shouldered the lion's share of the burden of holding back the darkness that longs to swallow up civilization and replace it with the sort of totalitarian hell that would be imposed by Nazis, Communists, or Islamofascist terrorists. The ever more obvious fact that Schieffer, Friedman and their elitist friends are actively assisting the darkness to triumph isn't just infuriating, it's horrifying.

Well, for one thing, if we turn 'em loose, we can shoot at them.

If they've been in longer than 2 yrs, their intelligence value is nil. I can see releasing them, but only if we can implant them with tracking devices and see where they go. Then, we can bomb those places.

Excellent plan, V the K. You ought to be put in charge of the whole situation.

I'm astonished at this metamorphosis of Schieffer. He really didn't seem that bad before, in fact if I recall he wasn't supportive of Rather during memogate (in retrospect: a power grab?). I've heard Sean Hannity interview Sehieffer, and he sounded like something resembling Atila the Hun in comparision with Rather... more like an attenuated Donaldson. Power corrupts, I guess.

Very enlightening post, VH.

Except the MSM isn't reporting claims from detainees -- but findings by the Pentagon of actual abuse.

Technically, they are reporting on Pentagon investigations of allegations of abuse made by detainees.
