NY Times Redefines Hypocrisy
The New York Times has published still another lengthy propaganda piece harping on supposed abuse of the coddled terrorists in US custody.
Why is this worth mentioning? Because the article is accompanied by some mediocre, vaguely kinky photographs by Andres Serrano.
You may recall that the loudest claims of abuse at Guantanamo Bay have entailed US soldiers allegedly showing disrespect toward Korans, which of course Muslims regard as holy. Americans were even accused of flushing a Koran down a toilet, though it turned out it was the terrorists themselves who tried to pull that stunt. One American guard inadvertently relieved himself too close to an air vent, and supposedly got a couple of drops of urine on a Koran, completely by accident — of course he was punished for this.
You may also recall that Serrano's claim to fame is Piss Christ, a photograph of a crucifix suspended in urine. Even writers for the Gray Lady probably have some vague awareness that the crucifix is regarded as holy by Christians.
The NY Times has one thing going for it. You can't spoof this publication.

Does anyone who doesn't post at DU even bother to read that rag?

That Piss Christ is EXTREMELY offensive, by the way.

When it comes to irony, the left is legendary for its tone deafness.

Those couple a' drops of urine must have been busy............ "that of Manadel al-Jamadi, for instance, whose body was wrapped in plastic and packed in ice when it was carried out of an Abu Ghraib prison shower room a year and a half ago, where he'd been handcuffed to a wall; or Abed Hamed Mowhoush, who, elsewhere in Iraq, appears to have been thrust headfirst into a sleeping bag, manhandled there and then, finally, suffocated. By anyone's definition of torture -- even that of the Bush administration, which originally propounded (and later withdrew) a strikingly narrow definition holding that torture occurs only when the pain is ''of an intensity akin to that which accompanies serious physical injury such as death or organ failure''

Not to mention the appalling use of Torture Puppets!!!
According to the log, his handlers at one point perform a puppet show “satirizing the detainee’s involvement with al-Qaeda.”

Yeah, and of course, the real truth is known only by Al Franken, Michael Moore and a million stoners and social rejects typing "Bush Is Hitler" over and over again while fantasizing that this makes them the brave resistance against an oppressive, tyrranical regime (that somehow has not yet managed to round up the hundreds and thousands of media leftists and bong-hit activists who wage a non-stop propaganda war against it). I think they call it the Democratic "Underground" because 3/4ths of the participants are living in their parent's basement.
