Promising New Blog
Regular readers of Moonbattery will recognize the name The MaryHunter. He has been the source of many of the best leads for posts on this site, and has provided some of the most intelligent comments. His own thoughtful posts have appeared on The Wide Awakes. Now he has his own blog — TMH's Bacon Bits — and you would be well advised to check it out.
What will set this site apart from other rightward-leaning blogs is the concept. It is named after the Renaissance philosopher and scientist Sir Francis Bacon, best known for founding the modern scientific method with his rigidly logical, empirical approach to making sense of the world around him. Bacon did however recognize that people's "thoughts are much according to their inclination, their discourse and speeches according to their learning and infused opinions."
The writers for TMH's Bacon Bits are scientists by training, conservatives by inclination. They will pay homage to the blog's namesake by aiming "to posit and opine with some basis in observable, measurable facts," without forgetting that "sarcasm, wit, and humor are our friends."
With unsupported opinions flying around the blogosphere like Jell-O at a food fight, this sort of rational approach is just what is needed to move blogging to a higher level of development. Before long no conservative blogroll will be complete without a link to TMH's Bacon Bits.

It sounds like a good blog idea but will these folks use facts or just dig up statistics that supports their claim? Statistics is almost a waste... there is always statistics that makes an issue look good no matter how atrocious. Cheers!

Van Helsing, I am truly humbled. What an endorsement! I guess I've, um, certain, well, expectations to fulfil now. 8-|
TY, bud! :D

Joseph: ye say true. Statistics can indeed be used to prove nearly anything. Extremists on both left and right are fond of it (as are some less-than-respectable scientists).
Bacon was good at induction - collating data, looking at them carefully, and seeing what logical conclusions can be drawn from them - rather than the old trick of positing your theory and fishing for the right data to support it. It's not always easy to cut through the crap data, especially in the sociopolitical relm, and there will always be some group who calls you out on your conclusions no matter how valid they are objectively.
We Bacon Bits writers are going to do our Bacony best... please drop by now and then, see how we're doing, and call us on it if we waver.
