Netherlands to Refrain From Arresting Bush
Posted by Dave Blount at May 6, 2005 7:11 AM
President Bush must be relieved to have learned that he will not be hauled off in handcuffs when he visits The Netherlands to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of WWII in Europe, a war that entailed Americans playing the major role in rescuing Holland from totalitarian hell.
This despite the demand of a dozen plaintiffs before a court in The Hague that W be arrested for doing for Iraq and Afghanistan what a previous American President did for the Dutch. The left-wing activists are also annoyed that Bush has the good sense not to recognize the International Criminal Court, possibly on the grounds that its idea of justice might consist of indulging in just this sort of infantile stunt.
In denying their request, the Dutch court ruled that arresting our President "could have far-reaching consequences for US-Dutch relations."
There would be consequences, all right.
