Minutemen's Efforts Are Paying Off
In case you were tempted to let your head be turned by the left-wing spin that the Minutemen are just getting in the way of the Border Patrol, or that the invaders pouring over the unguarded border are all saintly huddled masses yearning to breathe free and cut the grass at the country club for cheap, a recent piece in the Washington Times might help restore some critical perspective.
The article reports that hundreds of illegal aliens are holed up in the canyons of the Coronado National Memorial at Sierra Vista, Arizona, where they have been stranded because the smugglers they were supposed to meet up with for rides deeper into our country have been kept at bay by the Minutemen.
"They're hiding in the bushes, waiting to hook up with the smugglers in the very same area that our children wait for the school bus," according to Cindy Kolb, who has lived in the area for the past six years, and has to wait with her daughter armed with a pistol.
Unless they manage to wait out the Minutemen, hunger and thirst will soon force them to come out in the open. Once they do, they will be reported to the Border Patrol.
According to law-enforcement authorities, drug smugglers have also been stopped by the Minutemen. A member of a civilian reconnaissance patrol saw drug smugglers bury their contraband, so they can dig it up again when business as usual resumes after the Minutemen pull out on April 30. Drug smugglers are using two-way radios to keep themselves abreast of what the Minutemen are up to.
This specific area was targeted by the Minutemen because of "numerous complaints from homeowners that illegal aliens were overrunning their property," according to Chris Simcox, a Tombstone newspaper publisher who founded the Civil Homeland Defense organization in Arizona. He also reports that "Since our patrols began, we have received numerous letters, e-mails and personal comments from the residents, thanking us for being in the area."
I'd like to thank them, and I don't even live there. Let's just hope they can generate enough attention to get the Government to do something about this very serious problem, before the vicious gangs that run the smuggling move on from illegal aliens and heroin to al-Qaeda and suitcase nukes — assuming they haven't already.

Looks like, generally, things are going pretty well in southern Arizona.

I had been getting pretty dizzy from the recent 'news' re Minutemen. Thanks for the welcome perspective.

For years, the media and the politicians have been feeding us the line that it was impossible to do anything about illegal immigration, so we might as well get used to it.
Looks like they were lying about that.
Big surprise.

All this, the work of less then a couple hundred men? Hmm. Private enterprise should take over the border controls....one less government entity and we would be safer.
