Heroic Quest of the Transgender Moonbats
Hat tip to Tongue Tied for pointing out a laugher from the New York Times entitled "A Quest for a Restroom That's Neither Men's Room Nor Women's Room" that is all the more hilarious for being obsequiously on the level.
The article relates the tale of Riki Dennis, a 35-year-old "humanities student" who got on the wrong side of someone's boyfriend by using the ladies room at a highway rest stop because he likes to think of himself as a woman. This traumatic incident motivated Dennis to join People in Search of Safe Restrooms, a group dedicated to opening a new front in the Culture War. For them, "the bathroom, that prosaic fixture of past battles against racial segregation and for the rights of the disabled, has become an emotional and at times deeply personal symbol of a cultural and political divide."
Screeches another Riki — Riki Wilchins of the Gender Public Advocacy Coalition — transgender people are "tired of being harassed or hassled when they simply need to use a public facility."
A major focus of this campaign has been college campuses, always fertile soil for moonbattery. Thanks to the efforts of the Queer Action Campaign for Gender-Neutral Bathrooms, there are now 10 restrooms at the University of Chicago designated "gender neutral" — meaning that you can use them whether you are man, woman or Michael Jackson.
Unsurprisingly, colleges in San Francisco have taken up this cause enthusiastically. At the New College of California, men's and women's rooms have been replaced by "de-gendered" rooms, with signs on the door proclaiming, "Lots of people don't fit neatly into our culture's rigid two-gender system."
It should be noted that this is not simply a matter of trying to figure out which bathroom Rene Richards should use after his/her sex change operation. The Times defines transgender people as including "transsexuals, cross-dressers and those with a fluid, androgynous identity who do not consider themselves completely male or female," and notes that "in contrast to previous generations, in which many sought to transform their birth sex through hormones or surgery, today's young transgender people are content with a more fluid identity."
In other words, just being kind of a nancy-boy can make you a girl as far as bathrooms are concerned.
It won't be long before a judge discovers in the Constitution the right not to be subjected to your own gender's bathroom. In the shorter term, some lucrative lawsuits are bound to result from the trauma inflicted when people are forced to admit that they are whichever gender they are, and relieve themselves accordingly.
Peeping Toms take note: five cities, including New York, already have regulations that protect public restroom access based on "gender identity" — meaning that you should be regarded as whatever gender you say you feel like inside. Of course, you'll have to explain that canoe in your pocket.

What is it about our society that if somebody's mind doesn't match their body, we think it's perfectly fine to mutilate genitalia and inject them with massive amounts of hormones to make a crude facsimile of the opposite sex, but on the other hand, if you suggest therapy to make the mind accept the body, you're made out to be some kind of unenlightened trogolodyte.

Ordinarily I'd say s/he is cute, but that might engender additional gender ambiguity about my ambiguous gender. (Those of you calling me Mary out there, beware!) Therefore, mum's the word.

PS: A urologist friend brought up a good point: how long before women's rights groups start squawking about these gender-neutral bathrooms? We'll get full-circle moonbattery as NOW moves to assert womanliness (and therefore inequality), even as they complain that men (or men-in-transition) are leaving the seat up. ACLU lawsuit, I see it coming...
