A Little Irony from the LA Times
Another hot tip from the MaryHunter led to this editorial in yesterday's Los Angeles Times. Having just discovered the importance of states' rights, La Times expresses its outrage at attempts to prevent Terri Schiavo from being starved. In the course of the diatribe, maneuvers by social conservatives to save her via the federal government are referred to as "Stalinist."
Readers who learned their Russian history from the stalinophiles at the New York Times might be interested to discover that Josef Stalin — who famously observed that a single death is a tragedy but a million deaths is just a statistic — caused death and suffering for the sake of his power lust on a scale so vast that it simply isn't possible to get your mind around the enormity of his crimes, or of the evilness of the system that enabled them. Stalin was able to run up a body count comparable to Hitler's despite his regime's bumbling incompetence by being less particular than Hitler about who he killed.
The objective of Stalin's genocide was to pacify anyone who suffered the extreme misfortune of being stuck inside the borders of the Soviet Union, so that the depraved nightmare known as communism could be imposed on the population. If there was any resistance, Stalin didn't kill the resisters; it would have taken too much trouble to find them, especially when many times they didn't even exist except in his paranoid mind. Stalin's approach was to kill the entire region where resistance was thought to have occurred. This was accomplished by seizing all food, including seed corn.
Hitler was famous for killing with gas. Stalin favored starvation — the same method by which Terri Schiavo will be killed if the LA Times has its way. There are certainly two sides to this issue, but one thing is for sure: it doesn't leave La Times in a position to be calling their opponents Stalinists.

Nice background digging there, VH! For the record: I originally heard this striking irony fom Rush Limbaugh (Mon 21 March), who presented it with his usual brilliance and aplomb (whilst extinguishing several annoying moonbat callers, with half his brain tied behind his back).
